This Winter I caught 2 walleye while ice fishing, but i have not caught one through open water... granted i haven't really targeted them. I live on the lake and would like to know if anyone has been targeting them with any success.

If you caught 2 last winter, there must only be 2 left:lol: No really though, I have fished Orion in the past but the numbers are not there to obtain a specific pattern for those fish. I have caught them in deep water out by the island and M-24 and have caught them under the bridge back by the party lagoon area. If you are catching them keep it to your self and enjoy it. Because no one will bother you out there if you just keep it on the down low. It's hard to troll that lake because of all the bays and it's hard to keep a spot to yourself if you need to.

Tight Lines,

Chris

I'd say you are doing something right too. I'm not sure Lake Orion has the right structure to get much natural reproduction in it. It'd be nice to see them take off in the lake, not sure I'd eat, but it'd be fun to pull eyes out of a lake that a 5 wood and a 9 iron away from my front door. :D

the 2 that were caught were pretty big 7 and 8 pounds. These were mistakes taken on tipups set up for pike.

Thats a huge walleye whereever you go, my guess is they were original stockers? How long? 28-29"

27 and 26 inches they were extremely fat i caught them right before the end of walleye and pike season so they were full of eggs. I felt bad keeping them but they both swallowed the hook up to their you know what. If it wasn't for the sucker shortage last year I probably wouldn't have caught them because I had to switch to the smaller goldens because that is all what was available. I also used very small red trebles and 8 lb spider wire stealth leaders.
