Hey guys I'm gearing up for this season and the farm I visit looks pretty minky lots of springs, stumps, mice from a nearby cornfield, a few droppings and a few tracks so in anticipation I want to make some wood stretchers. Does anyone have patterns for stretchers? and some tips on making them, I would like to make a bunch of different sizes for different critters. I should be able to get some poplar or basswood. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys good luck to all.

Justin,

Are you just looking for mink boards?

I may not be doing too much trapping and have more boards than I really need. I can spare a handful if thats all youre really looking for.

Let me know.

Well I made one last night, it wasn't exactly easy but I got it done. I didn't have a chance to pick up any of the Basswood or Poplar, so I used slats from a pallet and some old fence slats. I think they turned out OK does anyone know if using oak and cedar is going to affect the hides? I have sanded down the slats to the correct dimensions for Mink. If cedar and oak are ok I will have hundreds of free slats to use, my dad tore down a fence not too long ago and has a ton of pallets from his chicken feed being delivered, so I have an unending supply if its ok to use. I will post a picture in a bit, they aren't perfect yet but I will hone them today.

Soft woods are normally used because theyre much easier to push your pins into. Oak pallet slats will probably make a beautiful board after being planed and sanded...but youre gonna play heck trying to put pins to stay stuck into it.
