View Full Version : Bow safe to shoot?

My old Hoyt Fast Flite has two splinters along the edge of both limbs. No other signs of damage/cracking. If I sand those down, is it safe to shoot?

I recently bought a new bow but I'd like to know if it's worth keeping around for my son to shoot some day.

Please, only respond if you have experience in this matter. If safety is even a slight issue, I'm dumping it.

I would contact hoyt directly. They might even be able to get you replacement limbs for a reasonable price.

Sorry I have no experience in this matter but I would not shoot any bow with splintering limbs let alone let my son shoot it.

A few years ago I noticed splinters on the limbs of my Darton Cyclone. I took a chance and tried to shoot it anyway. It blew up on me. Darton fixed it for free. I wouldn't take any chances with limbs that are split. Too risky in my book any more.

Thanks Joe. That's what I'm thinking also. The bow is too old to try and replace the limbs so I wanted to make sure before I trashed it.

Man! I hate to see you trash a bow because of my experience. Please take it in to a shop and have it looked at. You might even have a lifetime warranty on the limbs.
Here is a link with some information of what happened in my situation. I received my bow back in the mail from Darton on October 1st 2002!

Don't shoot it, don't even pull it back.......contact Hoyt directly and see what they can do for you.

Yeah, don't trash it! Don't shoot it either!
You might be able to find a matched pair of limbs on the net somewhere for cheap? Also, Barnsdale will make limbs for that bow for around $150 or so? Maybe not worth it but thats your call. Hoyt is pretty good at taking care of their customers so maybe they'll hook you up as well!

I have the same problem with a browning bow. I just released all the tension I could put a couple zip ties on the string to prevent it from being pulled back and put it on display because I did use this bow to kill my last buck and many other deer in its time. At least I can still display it. Just something else to think about. Making it a display piece.

Never experience a cracked or splintered limb, but i can tell you definitely DO NOT SHOOT IT. There is a lot of pressure put on bow limbs, any little splinter or crack can cause it to blow up. Like ken said, contact Hoyt and see what they can do, or even search the net for someone selling limbs for that type of bow.

Good grief.

Buddy, I don't know you or the other guy and I'm not about to put my safety in jeopardy based on your opinion(s).

Ninja, JoeArcher and SwampMonster have been around and I trust their input. All you did was fill my thread with garbage because you can't follow a simple request.

If you really need to reply to threads, please find one where an amatuers' opinion is not necessarily important.

No wait, take this thread and write all you want. I got the info I was looking for. It's all yours.

fill your thread with garbage?? I gave you pretty much the same info they did...who the hell are you to call me an amateur?? why? because i don't have thousands of posts or don't own a pro-shop?? You asked for opinions...only a moron would shoot a bow with splinters or cracks...and obviously, me knowing this, and you not knowing, says somthing right there.

Again, just because we haven't experienced it, doesn't mean we don't know what were are talking about...i know plenty about this sport, if you feel my opinion isn't important, than fine, but i'll reply to any post i feel i can help out in.

:bonk:It doesn't take much experience to have common sense tell you that shooting a bow with a splintered limb isn't a very good idea.

Forget about the advice about not shooting a FOB through a WB too. Since I have no experience try'n it, my advice has no creditability...

We don't have anything to prove , we offered advice to someone who needed it. but apparently we aren't qualified enough, or popular enough in this forum to do so!:lol: Next time you have a question and only want a certain person or 2 to answer, try a pm, maybe then us "less knowledgeable":dizzy: know you aren't talking to us.

and if this one hurt your feelings to, go ahead and send it to a mod with the others :gaga:
