View Full Version : WB or Dropaway?
See my other thread.
Looks like I need to change my rest.
So, I'm looking at either a different WB or a Cobra Diamondback, like the one thats on my Grizzly.
Thoughts?

I have shot a biscuit and currently shoot a drop zone. I have not shot the cobra rest u are talking about, but some times all it take is a change to get something going right. TR makes a drop zone for finger shooters, its call the free style or something like that. may be worth a look.
Hope this helps

Definitely a Drop away!
Whisker biscuit works good for what it is, really messes up fletching if you shoot much with it.
IMO its a good beginners rest, or for somebody that don't know how to work on archery equipment.
My suggestion for a Drop away would be.
Trophy Taker
Drop Zone
QAD Ultra Rest
If you are looking for the full containment that the Whisker Biscuit offers I suggest.
Trophy Taker Xtreme FC
QAD Ultra rest

Wow!! To think that after 27 yrs of shooting/hunting and at least 20 of those working on my own equipment I can still be called a beginner!! :yikes:
Actually, the WB is my choice for hunting even though I have about a dozen other rests most of which are Drop aways. And even though I may be considered a "beginner" by some, I do NOT get any fletch wear from my WB. Guess it must be luck!!
CMR.....I shoot an Original QS WB with fingers and don't have any problems. I went with this model because of the lack of vertical adjustment on the Droptine. You could also try the Deluxe WB, but I was having contact issues with one of my Blazers (that I could not get rid of) while using the Deluxe. You might also try the QAD...I have heard of finger shooters having good luck with them.

You'll have issues shooting a drop with fingers

I disagree.
I have a Cobra Diamondback on my Grizzly.
Shoot it with no problems.

If you decide to go with a drop away rest I highly recommend the Ripcord.
It is a dropaway rest but also offers full arrow containment like the WB. Gives you the arrow flight benefits of a dropaway but still provides 100% containment for stalking, still hunting or just laying your bow on your lap in the stand.
I got one last summer and have had no issues what-so-ever with it since it was installed.

I shoot the WB for one reason: once it's on the rest, it stays there.
One less thing to worry about in the woods...:)

I'm not sure how changing your rest is going to fix your sight issue, especially when you're shooting close to bullet holes with it.
Regardless, I guess you need to decide what the primary use for the bow is going to be. Are you hunting out of a tree with it, walking around a 3d course, punching spots, what? If the primary use is as a hunting bow, I'd leave the WB on there.

I have used both with good results , I lean towards the WB for hunting .

Look Did I say you were a beginner or everybody that uses one is a beginner or does not know how to work on a bow ?
No!
I stated that it was a good rest for a beginner or a novice on adjusting equipment.
END OF SENTENCE!
Use what you want, you can use a Flipper 2 rest if you want, I don't care, I only gave my opinion that I prefer the advantages of a Drop away.

It's actually harder to shoot with a WB because the arrow stays in contact with the rest longer than a dropaway and is set behind the grip , and any grip torque will affect arrow flight more so than a drop away .
Yes , they are easy to setup and tune , but that doesn't make them beginner's rests , just less hassle , and less prone to setup issues .
Most comments regarding them as beginner's rests are made by those who have never used one for hunting .

Thoughts? The WB is an excellent rest for hunting. If you can shoot fairly good it will be as good as any, and wont break or fall apart. I know a few guy who use them and out shoot everyone. I have used one and the feathers blew right off as fast as a few shots. Use blazers and put a little drop of glue at the tip of them, they will last a long time. If you shoot at dots and want an absolutely perfect arrow flight get a drop away. I would spend a few extra dollars and get an expensive one because you will get what you pay for when it comes to a drop away. If you get a drop away and have it installed correctly it will probably not give you any problems ever. Either way if its installed correct they both work great!!!! :)

This is another never ending arguement. I suggest you go to a pro shop that allows you to try out different rests. Then you decide which one is best for your set up.

There's a lot to be said with keeping it simple and you can't get much simpler than a whisker biscuit. I put a whisker biscuit on my daughters bow and it works great. However, I use a drop away on my own bow. After the first few inches of release, the rest drops out of the way and the arrow is unaffected by any quirks in my form such as torque. When I'm hunting, I snap the arrow in the small arrow holder on the shelf and it has the same arrow containment advantage as the WB. I can lay my bow on my lap, tip it upside down, it doesn't matter. As soon as I draw, the rest lifts it up and out and ready for the shot.

If you want the best in full containment and have good form go w/ the WB. Just use stiffer vanes. If you are not worried about containment and want the ultimate in arrow clearance chose a drop away. Some say you can have it both ways (QAD, RipCord etc.). I'm using a Limb Driver and it is the easiest drop to set up bar none and it is very accurate. You can use any feather vane you want and as much or as little helical/offset as you want....

If you interested in drop aways I have the QAD Ultrarest- the $45 one. I like it alot and is easy to install. I installed it on my new Bengal and tuned it all by myself. So easy even a caveman could do it!

I shot a WB for a little while. I shot it well, and i was pleased. I tried a dropzone, and my groups tightened up even more, so i never switched back. I want whatever is going to give me the most consistant results. I would suggest trying both if you can and see what you like best. I havent tried it yet, but the NAP sizzor rest(i think thats how they spelled it) looks interesting to me, but ive never used it.

My wife is shooting a WB and that thing is eating the fletching. I even went to 2" Blazers, i'm not real pleased with it. I'm going to a different glue to see if that helps!

My brother switched from a 3d rover because of his feathers betting messed up on his riser. He tried the WB. Shot it about 10 Times and took it back. Then he bought the "Trophy Ridge Drop Zone" and he has recommended it ever since. Even convinced my cousins to use it and they have the same thing to say about it.
