View Full Version : Possible bow sight issue?
I got my Martin Pantera "setup" this weekend.
I'm shooting 65#.
Draw length is 28"
Arrow is a 29# xx75 2315, w/a 125gr tip.
Rest is a Whisker Biscuit (Large for alumimum).
Sight is a 3pin Toxonic sight.
And I shoot FINGERS.
Here's the issue.
Was sighting it all in today at 20yrds and I had to keep dropping the sight lower and lower. Its so low and I can not move it anymore or it'll fall off the bracket. Even moved the pins low and still, not shooting dead nuts. I am also shooting to the right but I can adjust that..no problem, plenty of room for adjustments.
I shot thru some paper at 15yrds and its so close for it being a bullet hole, I know its not a rest issue.
So, I'm wondering if I should switch sights.....there's a couple I am looking at for backups.
So, your thoughts?

using a peep?

Your nocking point is probably too high , the peep is too low , or you are anchoring up high on your face . Sometimes papertuning can give you a false reading .
It's kinda hard to diagnose a problem in the internet with out seeing a bow setup and the shooter .

Nock point is not too high.
Peep is not too low.
Anchor point is same spot each time, knuckle in corner of mouth.

If your nock and rest are fine and your peep is where it's supposed to be I'm out of answers.
Regarding the peep...1/4" can be 14" at 20 yards...you sure it's dead on?
Point blank to the target nock and arrow...get ready to draw and close your eyes....come to full draw and anchor eyes closed. Open your eye...wheres the peep?
Not questioning your judgement...just 80% of the time people have your complaint....that's the issue.;)

Did that too. When I open my eye, I'm looking straight thru it. Can't move it up or down...if so, then I can't see thru it.
Ya know, looking at the bow.....Martin might have the bracket holes slightly higher than what I'm used to.
Comparing (as close as I can) it to my Grizzly, the hole are higher.
Update-
The holes for the sight bracket are higher than my Grizzly. I measured the distance. Hmmmm...think I have a problem now.....

I had a similar problem, I don't use a peep but I do use a kisser button. Mine was hitting low and running out of room on my sight. I changed the kisser button a little and it made a big difference, moved my sight back up and ready to go, So you can move the peep up or down to adjust where your sights will work.
Update pt2.
I measured everything on my Grizzly...distances between certain points and etc...measured distance from nock to peep.....checked and rechecked the squaring of everything and compared those measurements to the setup on the Pantera.
Everything on the Pantera was completely off!!!
No wonder why I was shooting off, my measurements were off (like nock to peep is supposed to be 5inches, it was 7inches on the Pantera) and nothing was square!
Tried to adjust the WB and that might be an issue.....the disk of the WB isn't vertical, its slightly canted. Don't think I can shot it this way. Its a Drop Tine WB and looks like I would need to switch to a different WB then. Either that or get a dropaway!!!
Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!
I'll keep ya updated!!

Bring it in....and bring your wife too....we'll discuss embroidery, and get you set up properly.
I'm just guessing, but it sounds like an anchor issue.

In all honesty, the peep SHOULD be a bit higher from your nock point on the Pantera due to it being a shorter AtA bow. But I have to agree with a few of the guys here, your peep can be moved to accomodate your problem and it won't take much of a move to get you right. As Kelly said, 1/4" goes a LONG way.

Don't think its an anchor problem. If so, then I wouldn't be able to shoot my other bow.;)
Its the WB....its way too low on the bow and can't move it.
So, I'm thinking of getting a Cobra Diamondback, like the one I have on my Grizzly.
EDIT-
Ordered the rest this morning. So it should take about 2days for it to get here. How late are ya open during the week, Ken?
I'll also bring my Grizzly so that Mike or Dave can see how its been setup for me...since I shoot fingers. Showed ya how it works for me, remember?
