VHF monitoring

Does the coast guard monitor marine radio freq. on whitefish bay off superior?
Just wondered if a hand held VHFwould even be worth trying in a emergency out there being its pretty remote piece of water.

They work off of towers like repeaters so they would hear you. I take my uniden atlantis 250g everywhere I go just in case.

Sorry I must have missed this post earlier - The short answer is yes - they have high-level VFH antenna sites that would cover WFB pretty easy -

You can always hit them for a radio check when your out there to test your unit to be sure.
