Teh 14yr old kis i've been taking with me has "borrowed" bows for the last season as well as this season. It's time for him to just get his own, so he's not gettign one last minute and doesn't have to keep moving all his stuff from one to another.

I thought someone made one that you could just change out the limbs as the kid grew? He should be pulling 45#'s by next summer, we'll see whats he's pulling this weekend when we take this new rental in to get setup.

Let's hear the list of good youth bows...and try to include some rough prices, so this poor kid can have something around the house to practice with ALL year and not just the last weeks before season.

Parker makes the Challenger, which is designed for smaller framed kids or women. I bought one for my wife and that thing is a good little shooter. Hers is the 50lb model backed down to 40 lbs. If you buy the bow new, you can get replacement limbs and draw mods from a dealer as the kid grows.

It is not a toy bow, it is a very well built bow that shoots great.

I bought my wifes used for $150 and you can get a new one for $300 I think.

I thought it was Parker. I shot one years ago, when I was looking to replace my PSE Spirit round wheel and thought it was pretty smooth.

I'll put the bug in his dad's ear to start searching for a good used one. I'm just upset that for the second year in a row, and he's not even set up with little more than a week before the opener and hasn't even shot once with this new one.

I mad at the youth bow myself. I ahev been looking at them for my 9 yeard old. I want to get him a decent bow and not junk. Many of the youth bow being made ahve what 8 to 9 inch draw lenght changes but only a 10lb draw weight change.

Do the bow companies expect our kids to grow but not get any stronger?????

You pay a good price for a decent kids bow and they outgrow it because of draw weight not because of draw length.

I still didn't get said bow for my son and if I do right now he cannot pull enough weight to hunt with it when he is old enough and I when I feel he is ready. When this happens I will then have to get another bow and then perhaps two more by the time he's and adult.

From what I looked at so far Parker, Alpine and browning have some decent youth bows but can do better!

I have friends whos kids are using the Browning Micro Midas and they love them.

PARKER!! There are several adjustments so it will grow with the youth. My son has been shooting his for 3 yrs now and every year we just adjust the cam to fit his draw length!! Very simple!

Both my sons started out with the MM and they used it until each were old enough to pull 50#'s. Great bow and one I felt comfortable enough with to allow them to hunt with it. VERY fast for a youth bow. And a full 10" of DL adjustment. 2 different sets of limbs with the lighter set maxing out at 30#'s and the heavier set maxing out at around 45#'s.

My son accommodated (;)) his grandma’s year-old Fred Bear Badge. It was adjusted from an adult to a 10 year old with no problem. There’s lots of adjustable stuff on this bow. It goes up to 45 lbs. and the draw length is 21 to 30 in.

I think my son is pulling just about 38-40lbs. He shoots 1 pin at about 25 yards. And can adjust pretty well out to 35 yards. Although, every once and a while an arrow will fly off in a curve totally missing the target. I can’t tell if it’s the same arrow each time. Keep forgetting to mark it. It may just be a defunct arrow or maybe the WB is interfering. Not to sure.

But all-in-all the Badge is doing very well for a beginner that his can grow with. Literally. And grandma will be lucky to get it back.

I purchased my son a Browning Micro-Eclipse when he was 14. The three things that I was looking for were draw weight adjustment, draw length adjustment, and ability to adjust without a press. The bow weight range is 30 - 50 pounds and the draw length is like 20 - 27 inches. He is STILL using this bow at 17 years of age.
I purchased a Micro Midas for my daughter at 12. It is excellent as well, but peaks out at a lower weight.
In the past few years I noticed a bow made by Darton had the same qualities I was looking for when I purchased the Browning for my son. You might want to check out the Darton Web site.
Here is a link for the Darton Ranger series http://www.dartonarchery.com/RangerSeries.htm
A Solo-Cam bow, draw weight 15 - 45 pounds, and draw length from 17 - 28 inches. They have it listed at $261.00, but would guess you can do better.

Bowtech rascal, and Diamond Edge. The rascal can be adjusted from 19-25" with mods, and draw weight can go from 10-20, 20-30, or 30-40 you can get different limbs for the different weights. I have a 24" 30-40 LB. listed in the classifieds right now. It is an amazing bow, my wife loves it, and got a complete passthrough on a 2 1/2 year old doe with it. It is also 80% let off, and only 24" axle to axle. Everytime she would show it to someone they would sort of smirk or laugh at it. As soon as she would shoot it they would say "holy $#!@ do that again!!!" She has recently replaced that (why the rascal is for sale) with a Diamond edge 40-50lb. draw. This bow is similar to the rascal, a little longer axle to axle, about the same speed, and draw length can be changed from 18-28" by simply moving the mod, no bow press required. They are available in 20-30, 30-40, and 40-50lbs. My wife started out with a Micro Midas and didn't like it at all, she loves her Rascal and Edge!
