A few guys and I are heading up to do some salmon fishing the weekend of the 29th. I am just wondering where would be the better place to try. I have fished both places many times and I know that Wellston is usually the better of the two spots but I just hate having to fight the hords of people that go there. I know there is Bear Creek, but I have never really spent to much time on it to know where to go. Basically what we are looking for is some where we can hook into some fish and not have to fight tooth and nail for it. Thanks for the info guys.

Wherever you go, take into account that the opener of duck season is Sept. 29th in the middle zone. If you go to Oscoda, you should be okay below Foote dam, but above.....you'll be competing with lots of hunters.

Oscoda off the pier.
Maybe I'll be there....my hubby will be upstream with the rest of the duckie blasters. I don't do ducks...

I was up to Oscoda last weekend and there was not one, I repeat, not one salmon up at Van Etten Dam. Normally at this time of the year there are hoards. Several guys caught a few at the pier.
