After not even seeing a goose during the early season I was very pleasanly surprised to hear from my co-worker that there were geese in all the fields around his place over the weekend. We got there before dawn this morning and set up our spread. The hunters in the next field over fired off a couple of volleys of shots just a few minutes into the season. Usually the geese don't start flying until sunrise so this was a good sign that they were already coming to the fields. Pretty soon the flocks started coming and it was one of the best openers for seeing birds that we have had for quite a few years. Our field wasn't the prime target for the birds but we filled our limits by 9:00. The field across the road from us had a load of geese sitting in it. I would guess that there were a thousand or better. The same guy owns both fields so we will be sitting there tomorrow morning. Ah! Life is good!
