View Full Version : Summit Viper Assembly - Did I Screw Up?

I got a new Summit Viper SS (hooray!) and I started putting it together. I was getting kind of frustrated putting the padding on the bar on the seat of the climber. I had the black twist ties on and I was spinning them around the bar so the actual locking portion of the twist tie was under the bar so I don't get my clothing snagged on them (per the instructions). Well in the process I sinched the twist ties about as tight as they'll go and I had a heck of a time twisting them around the bar. They're much tighter than shown in the picture - almost to where the padding is just buldging around the twist tie! My question is with having the ties on that tight damage the padding? SHould I cut them off and go pick up some new ones from the hardware store? I can say one thing for sure, that pad ain't move'n anytime soon! :) So - cut it or leave it?

The twist ties are cheaper than a new pad. But I have 2 summit stands and the ties do dig into the pad a little bit. Are the pads going to be where your hands are when you are climbing? You don't want those to slip. Make sure your hardware has the large ties that come with the stand also. I haven't seen them at the store before.

Same was/is with mine. The padding and such hasn't ripped. But like it was said, make sure that's not where your hands are going to be.

I have mine on as tight as fricken possible. I don't want those things budging.

I guess if you can't find twist ties that thick at a hardware store I'll have to be happy with the way they are. I was just worried over time that the foam under them would degrade or shred. They're on there so tight that they look like they've compacted the foam down to nothing around the bar. I can't even get the pad to budge one bit. The ones where my hands go aren't so tight. The real tight ones are on the front of the pad, but it seemed like the fabric was a little squirly there to begin with when they weren't SUPER tight. Bah I guess if all else fails order a replacement right?
