I bought a Gander Mountain brand, "Block" style target that was taking field points with little damage........and then i shot the broadheads this weekend. Of course I've got 3 areas now where my knock was in the target about 2"s.

I've heard that the Yellow Jacket Broadhead target is great for BH's, is this true and how long do they last. Have any of you found any others that can take the punishment of a broadhead? In the past, I've used Spitfires and they always flew the same as my FP's, now I'm shooting fixed blades and since they never flew the same in the past, I wanted to make sure they were hitting the same as the FP's. I had the folks at KD's tune my bow this year and it's the first time in 12 years that I've actually got the fixed blades hitting the same as my FP's, I didn't think it was possible, I was wrong.

I have the Yellow jacket target and it works good. You can shoot it on all 4 sides too. The arrows pull easy and for the price I dont think it can be beat.

I set it next to the bag target and shoot feild tipps into the bag and braodheads into the yell jacket. This is my 3rd year using it and I still have been shooting the same side. I havent had one go threw it yet and I use fixed blade thunder heads.

Field tiped arrows do not pull easy from it for some reason, unless you rub soap on the arrow shaft.

There is only ONE target you need to get and that's a Rhinehart 18-1!! Guaranteed against shoot out int he first year and the ONLY target that is as easy to retrieve filedpoints as it is BH's. I've tried them all and would NEVER think of using anything else now.

I did a little search on that Rhinehart, but man is it small and for shooting broadheads, you only get one target per surface and man is it expensive. In that search it pulled up a video on a BH target called the King broadhead Camp target and it took 80 shots in a 2-3" area to get the arrow to the fletching. The yellow jacket took 25 shots, the Block took 34 shots. Of course the guy in the video was the producer of the King target, so I don't know how much stock I'm putting in the video:lol: I'm cynical like that. The construction of the King looked solid, it is a multilayer foam system that gets more dense the deeper the arrow goes and the closest foam is more self healing where as the denser layer is not, but all the previoous layers slow it down enough to make the denser layer not have to take the full punishment of a BH.

That makes it all the more impressive to me. Something that size that lasts says a lot about the target. And besides, how much area are you looking for? As fo the King, that's one of the few that I HAVEN'T tried. But I can guarantee you won't be shooting FP's at it!!;)

Ditto, I have this target and love it. I have shot both FP and BH and it's still holding up after 3 years. Kent Arms carries them so go down there and check them out.

Yeah, in the video, he said that it is a strictly BH target, FP's would be difficult to pull out.

I look for A LOT of target area when I'm starting out, once I've got it zero'd in, then less is okay.

I'm looking at this one for my next target. Does it stay in place on impact or does it move around? Looks like it has a small footprint and would get knocked around by the arrow impact. Everything I 've heard has been positive except for the price. If it works, and it lasts, thats not really an issue.

Yes the footprint is small. I use my old targets as a backdrop for this one as a result. But it rarely gets knowcked out of place on a flush hit. It's the ones on an angle that get it moving the most.

The problem of that type of horizontal thin layered foam for Broadheads is that the BH will slice chunks of it fairly quickly, and that area gets shot out really quick. My Gander one is like the one shown and within 8-10 shots, the broadhead sank in 2" past the knock. These type of targets are great for fieldpoints, because the FP'd don't slice the heck out of the material.

That King one is layers from front to back, with various thickness foam and each layer gets progressively denser. It's like shooting into a bunch of couch coushins.

For the money you cannot beat the Morrel YellowJacket.

I've got the rinehart and really like it. Although it is smaller than some of the others, I see this as a plus as it is easily transported. Even though there is only one surface facing you at a time, you can still aim at the surrounding smaller circles as well. As was mentioned, it can get bounced around a bit, but this will just allow you to shoot at another side. Pretty much any way you look at it, at any angle, there is a target side facing you.

I've got about 500 shots into one side, maybe 30 of those have been broadhead. Still only sink in about 8-10". I still have 5 more of the large sides, and 12 of the little ones to shoot at when this first side is done.

I shoot alot and I can't complain at all about the Yellow Jacket. I took my kids crayons and drew five circles on each side to spread out the damage.

I've had three Blocks. Each lasted one season.I've had two Morrel Yellow Jackets. Each lasted one season. For the price,my next one will also be a Yellow Jacket.I shoot a lot of broadheads because I like to.For field points a bag target is hard to beat.I hang that above my Yellow Jacket and alternate arrows.
