Fleming Creek is a trib of the Huron, flowing into the river just east of Ann Arbor near the Dixboro/Geddes dam. Parker Mill park is a neat former grist/saw mill on the creek. On one of the educational signs in the park, it says the stream is "trout quality" and is "one of the coolest streams in southern Michigan". Also it states there are approx. 20 species of fish in Fleming Creek.
I tried to fish this creek a few days ago and with a 9 foot 5 weight, frustrated myself, because my rod is way too long. What you really need is a 6.5 foot 2 weight. The stream is only about 8-10 feet wide. There are some deepish holes (4-5 feet deep) so I think there is a chance for some reasonable bluegill or small bass. But I didn't see any fish, and couldn't cast anyway due to heavy cover and long rod.
If you can find fish, this is perfect dry fly on light line water.
Has anyone fished this stream? It looks absolutely charming!
What about getting some support rallied for trout planting? How would a person convince the DNR to do this? Who needs to agree? Landowners or city/county officials or DNR? Or can private groups (Trout Unlimited) stock the stream? How do we get this done??!!??
