No salmon up that far. Croton dam is as far as they can go. Gotta be great carpin' up there though. Hardy's full of 'em.

Hardy dam used to have great walleye fishery although it has declined as of recently due to shocking and retransplanting the fish.Nice water below the dam and holds a few trout.

Due more to the removal of Newaygo dam where they used to net and put 5000 over both Croton and Hardy @yr. Transplanting was stopped (according to John Trimburger) because as the eyes aged (4-5yrs) they wanted to return to the river/big lake, and became turtle food as they went through the turbines:sad: To my knowledge they don't shock/transplant up that far. Watch them every year below Croton.

What would be the best lakes to fish for fall walleye. I live in Comstock Park..and me and the guys are looking to fish for the eyes this weekend. Suppose to be really nice out. Might be our last walleye trip for the year. Thanks so much!

Whatever you do dont go to Fremont Lake.
Probably cant go wrong going to Hardy or heading west.
Those pesky walleye sure can be tough to catch.
I wouldnt put the boat away when the fishing is just picking up.

Heading west? Like Muskegon? I just dont want too big of a lake...just getting into Walleye and still have not caught one this year. How long is the fall bite on....end of october? Any other good lakes besides Hardy? Thanks again for your time. Very much appreciated.

Want a chance both walleye and salmon below croton dam would be the place to go.Locals tell me that the walleyes there bite late after 1am and Crotn resevor they fish for the eyes there off the road bridges.

All the way till ice up, it just keeps going and they get less selective on what they eat the later in the season. Went up last saturday perchin by big bend, 4 legal bass and six perch 8" plus.

well if you are looking for the eyes up in that area?? I dont know how much closer you could get to them.. Anything north of Croton between 131 and Northland drive you'll find the eyes. If yuo got the latest Michigan Outdoor magizine it tells where to hunt for them. If you really want a good area pm and I will share...Just so you dont go all year without catching a eye, cant have that....

Well I guess Hardy is big as well as Muskegon. I just figure if I can fish for Walleye on a smaller lake....my chances of mistakes and pinpointing the eyes in a certain spot will help my chances of landing one. I guess we are thinking of hitting up Hardy. SHould be there Friday after work and Sunday morning. I heard big bend is a good spot to start....I saw it on my GPS. If no luck we might go ahead and try Muskegon on Sunday...but its such a big lake and to fish it for the 1st time for the wallies....im thinking the chances are not good, because we dont know the lake. Any suggestions on either of these lakes would be awesome. Not looking for a magical spot you guys always use, but someting in general. Thanks again for everyones help on this, just wanna have a good fishing trip this time, never have caught one, and never seem to fish for these walleyes like i want to.....the right way! :)
Thanks again

Jeff

I grew up camping in Big Bend every summer. We used to do really well up there on crawlers and harnesses. I was up there this year and consistently hammered the 13" and 14"ers. out of the 20 fish I boated, none were legal. But it's still a great time!

Hardy is a better choice than Muskegon Lake this time of year. Run some Night Crawlers on a harness along the drop offs in 14-20 fow. you should be able to get a few. (most will be under sized though)
