Does anyone know if any trout stay in the Clinton River year round? I was just skimming through a book at the bookstore by Jim Bedford and it is a fly fishing guidebook for Michigan and it talks about brown trout in the Clinton. I was just wondering if anyone has had much luck besides fishing for steelhead and salmon? If so I might try it for a change from Paint Creek. I wouldn't mind being able to cast a bit farther than I can at Paint Creek.

John, don't know about that but I do know that Paint Creek gets some steelies at least in the spring from the Clinton. A few years back I got a hold of what I believe must have been one of these on opening day, and it ripped my rig right off.

I run at bloomer park a lot (I run cross country for MSU) and have seen trout in the river a few times. Bloomer starts just above the Yates dam. I have talked to the guys at Paint Creek outfitters about fishing there and they said it wasn't worth my time. I have however seen people pulling fish out of the river on a couple occasions also. I haven't wet a line in the Clinton other than for steelies so I don't know from my own experience. If you want to know where a good spot might be, email me and I will tell you what I can where I have seen trout.
