Does anyone here target cohos by casting off the surf near the Platte ? I would like to give it a whirl, but I'm trying to get it down to the right time. Any responses would be appreciated !
Thanks

The right time is now. A north wind and waves gives em the courage to come onto the sandbar at mouth. Some guys still fish floating sac`s and pyramid slip rigs, seems mostly small jac`s and steelhead are biters.[a little early for steel]. My favorite tech., a 1/2oz. kowobbler spay painted gloss black, reel in fast twitching rod tip all the way. My bud preferes a mich. squid spinner with black squid [its a rubber trolling squid on a spinner]. I wear my glasses and follow the schools. The squid spinner triggers more bites but I can cast farther with the spoon. My best surf fish exp. ever happens there and I`ve fished mich. to florida to alaska. The rougher the water the better. My best days are often when 6footers are crashing the beach and you can see em at eye level riding the waves in, way cool!!!!! Riverside canoe rental has good info. and the tackle that works.

I too have had some of my best days surf fishing the mouth of the Platte. You never know what you're going to hook; salmon, coho, or steel. One weekend I was catching menomee.
