Don't see any recent comments from the Lions cheering section. Cat got your tounges or the Lions slicing up the number one passing defense and #3 over all defense like they weren't even there got you dazed and confused.
Even though it was Oakland you have to admit it wasn't Lions of old. Lions 36 at Oakland is pretty dam good consideing last years ranking, plus they were at Oakland.

I agree...it may have been the raiders, but they have a solid defense...if this were a year ago...the lions would have lost this game after losing a 17-0 lead and going down 21-20...saw something a little different today, they fought back, on both defense and offense and won by 15.

Ya,ya im right here. Some of us work for a living!!!
Ok, so i didnt waste my time, er ah, get a chance to see the game. I worked 9 hours!!!
Anyway, from what i heard, the loins tried to give it to the Raiders up til about 4:00 Minutes left in the 4th qtr. If it wasnt for the loins reject QB, McClown tossing the intercept than the raiders very well could of scored and run the clock out. McClown must remember, he's not using the loins playbook this year...so stop making mistakes.
You sound like a typical loins fan. One win over a bad team and its like you won a playoff game. "Yea baby we kicked the Raiders axx" and "whos your Daddy now, raiders?" Guys its the raiders. they won what 2 or 3 games last year? Big deal!!! I know its been like 15 or 16 years since your team won a playoff game but surely its bigger than beating the Raiders:lol:
So the loins squeeked by the ONLY team worse than them!!! Big freakin deal!!! I got news for you....dont order your loins playoff tickets yet!!!
Like i said a day or two ago, they need to win the first two games vs the Raiders and the Vikings just so they can be end with 5-11.
Beat the Bears,Pats,Dallas,Colts or Chargers by 10 points then you can gloat all you want.
PS: Sorry if i sound crabby today. Im still trying to grasp my Wolverines being 0-2.

I was fairly impressed--Especially when Oakland went ahead 21-20 and the Lions didn't fold. They actually knuckled down, forced some key turnovers with defensive pressure, then methodically worked down field for that go ahead TD. A good sign no doubt, but only one game. Let's see if they can string it together for a good showing against the Vikes.

Am I the only one who wasn't impressed by that win? It was a win but....
Penalties, turnovers, a blown lead. We got burned badly by passes into the flats and screens. Overall I'd give the O a "C" and the D a "C", I do not like the "bend but don't break" defense. A good defensive team...Chicago, GreenBay, San Diego, Philly, is gonna kill us.
Let's see how the Lions adjust to cover those holes, the O can't score if the D is on the field all day.
No kool-aid and cornbread for me this week!

I'd disagree. The lions played three good quarters yesterday against one of the top rated defenses of last year. Compared to previous years penalties were a non-factor and were limited to one player. (Foster, somebody get him a hearing aid so he can hear the snap count over the crowd.) One of the picks was Kitna's fault and one was Williams. When you throw the ball 40+ times a game picks are inevitable.
The defensive line was pretty solid and put constant pressure on McCown. Rogers was a beast. If he can increase his endurance a little he will be a major factor. The raiders scored two of their touchdowns while he was out of the game and it showed. Sims is going to turn out to be a really solid linebacker.
If I was Martz I'd be running that four receiver set all day. Every time they ran it someone got open. As long as the OL gives Kitna time to throw it's going to be very hard for defenses to cover that set. Even the secondary did a reasonably good job. You may not like the bend, don't break defense but it worked the way it is supposed to and if your offense can generate enough points it should be a winning strategy.
They still have a lot of improvements to make but yesterdays game was a great start. They had one win on the road last year, they've matched that in the first game.
baby steps, baby steps.

Sorry mel, just calling a spade a spade, hope it doesn't bother you too much,,,,not!!!
Bonney, let me add something you missed, They beat the worst team according to won loss record at their house but who was the best team against the pass and 3rd overall defense. Yea, the Lions defense needs to play better. But their offense seems to be one of the best in the NFL.
The easy road is to be the preverbial pessimist like Mel and William Bonney with the Lions history. But again it's always easier to act like that then to be a true fan. nobody wants to be made a fool of,,,I'm used to it.

that "worst team in the league" had one of the TOP teams on defense last year...#1 in passing defense...their offense is what was horrible, scoring only 12 offensive Td's last year...no matter who you are and how good your defense is, if your offense is that bad, you have no chance. if the lions can put up 36 points against the raiders, they should be able to do that just about every game...it is the defense of the lions that is questionable...i don't think anyone is sold on the D after just one game, but they'll get better as the season progresses. remember, the majority of this teams losses last year were by 7 points or less...they were in every game except for i think 2...

Sorry,,, meant to say, want me to tell you how it will end?? They'll have another top five pick in the draft next year.
Let's put this into perspective,,,,,,,,, it doesn't matter how you sugar coat it,, the Raiders were the WORST team in football last year and don't show any signs of improvement. The Lions gave up 400 yards in offense to a 3rd string QB that played back up WR last year,,,,,,,,,,,,,, for your team no less.. The Raiders score 12 TD's last year,,, TOTAL. On top of that,, Kitna is right on pace to have just as many turnovers as last year. I give credit where credit is due,,,, Martz and that's it. A win is a win,,,,, but don't kid yourself into thinking this is a sign of things to come.

this team isn't the same as last year...Kitna had a great game yesterday, only threw one legit INT, the other was Williams fault, O-line gave him great protection, running game wasn't great but it was effective. defense played 3 great quarters, still some work to do but overall they were good. the offense went in a put up 36 points against one of the leagues best defenses. ( i don't care what you think, if you fail to see what every sports analyst see's and what the numbers show, you are a fool) and the defense didn't fold under pressure like they used to, after giving up the lead, they fought back, forced a turnover and let the offense do its thing.

Really guys, Ive played this "why do you hate the loins so much" for a few seasons now. Funny, Aside from Joe , Thousand and Jimmer you "Lovers" come and go. Myself, Bonney and others have mentioned countless times what/why we dont like the loins. Its public knowledge on this forum.
And someone had a comment about us getting on the bandwagon. Right.
They might get back to the mighty 8-8 of years gone by and some here will be dancing in the streets, trying to get Ford elected as President. But i will

I been a Lions Fan since the late 60's I have yet to see much in playoff mode. I still (@48) love to watch the Lions most of the time. I can't count the times I was doing the Math towards the end of the 3rd 1/4 trying to figure out how they'll make up the huge deficit. Wins Loses, I still get a kick out of the game and the good and bad plays during the game, I'm a fan. We wanna win,, but I would still watch anyways and have for years. Chit, I listened to the 1st preseason game for a while in my truck in the parking lot of the marina cause the Boat radio wouldn't pick it up, the truck wasn't much better.

interesting thread.
It's nice that are a lot of real fans here, but if real fans were the only ones around to foot the bill and fill the stands the Lions would be out of business and right now you'd be trying to figure out if you were a real Bears, Browns, Colts, or Packers fan.
Maybe I don't fit this thread's definition of a real fan but I've watched nearly every game since the early 80s, spent plenty of money on apparell, tickets, concessions, etc. over the years AND I still like to make fun of them. I never thought that was a crime until this thread. Pretty much all the Lions loyalists I know do that, it's sort of like followers of the Boston Red Sox. You rag on your favorite team and hope that they eventually turn things around.
So when the Lions do eventually end up with a great team and start winning playoff games does that mean I don't have any business rooting them on and I'm a bandwagon fan? To be honest, I'm won't be all that concerned with what people think because that means hell has frozen over and I'll be out on a date with Cindy Crawford! (I know, I need to update my supermodel selection, but like I said, I've been with the team since the 80s.......and she's still pretty hot. )
come on, let's all be friends, let's revisit this topic after week four or five and we can all have a good laugh about it.

From the owners all the way down to the players,, draft picks, coaches, GM's, letting the greatest RB in history retire,, because you blow. Lions OPTIMIST?
No not me. A while ago I became a Lions REALIST. They are BAD and that's about it. I tried to be an optimist for a long time and every year I gave them a chance and had high hopes. But those hopes were dashed every year. A couple of years ago I just finally gave up and consigned myself to the fact that there's just no hope for the Lions. Yes I would LIKE to be a fan and look forward to every game. But I've had my heart broken just too many times. It will take more than one even half way decent season to turn me around. Yes I'll support the Lions and be happy when they win. But they're going to have to put together several GOOD seasons in a row before I'll even consider going back to the dark side. :)
I'm not putting down Lions fans in any way. I'm glad you're still out there. Go ahead and enjoy the games. I'll listen and maybe even watch one here or there if I don't have something better to do. Heck, I even listened to most of the Oakland game while I was cutting the grass. I really like listening to and watching football but being from the metro Detroit area the Lions make it so darn hard to do.
Have fun folks and play nice. Everybody has an opinion and they're all entitled to it. There's no sense in getting nasty or calling people names all over their allegiance to a particular football team. IT'S ONLY A GAME!
Besides, we're only about a week away from the start of the hockey pre-season when Detroit's REAL team starts their season. :D
J/K folks take it easy.;)
Take care

As far as Minnesota next Sunday; I think the Lions have a good chance of stating 2-0. This isn't "corn bread" any more. We are at the "show me" state of the season. I did that corn bread stuff tongue-in-cheek for fun. I have no issue with those that ridicule the Lions; they deserve it! I am just one loyal fan who would love to see things change. It is that simple.
In any case, the Vikings defense probably is worse that Oakland's and the Lions D- line should be able to pressure a young QB. I think playing at home will be the deciding advantage.... Next week you can all me Nostrodamous if you wish..

41-10 at Washington was definitely a heartbreak, but did anyone honestly think they'd roll off a 12-4 record and make the NFC Championship game after the 45-0 a** kicking Washington gave them in the first game of the season that year? Leave it to the Lions front office and Wayne to completely dismantle that team and change things around after that only to go 5-11 the next year.
Being a Lions fan means you have to have a thick skin. No biggie, sooner or later they'll do something and those of us that have always been around to have our hearts ripped out can kick everybody off the bandwagon and say, "I was a Lions fan before 2037."
It was a good showing Sunday and there were signs that they are indeed a different team with a different mentality, but like anything concerning this team, you take it with a grain of salt and a large portion of guarded optimism. Let's see what they do over the next few games before we break out the Kool Aid.

I am not the pot stirrer I am the pot stirrer stopper. A pot stirrer could be confused as a bully which I am not.
I am glad you cleared up who you really are jimmer. :dizzy:

relax, chit man, I am relaxed. This isn't nothing. Tell me to take my meds, maybe you might want to come down to the dock and tell me that personally. It's easy to spew stuff out with a Fictitious user name. Everyone knows who I am, what the heck is a Jimmer, or a Tub jig or Mel, or William Bonney, a killer wannabe.
Use your real names when you post with a phone number next to it and your posts will change drastically. Talk about the perfect format to say what you want without any repercusion personally.
But to have folks grindin on a someone for what they think is BS and just flat being a bully. I don't get on a computer much in the summer so I am late to this, just making up for lost time if you will.
You're kidding me,,, right?? What's next,,, your dad beating up my dad?? :dizzy:
The loins blow,,,,, always have and always will,, just deal with it. The same way Wolverine fans have to deal with this season,,,,, Cubs fans,,,,, Yankee's fans when they blew a 3-0 series lead against Boston,,, etc.....

Did I miss something or isn't the title of this thread basically calling some people out?

Never mind, when folks make comments using false names it holds no merit. My bad, especially when they disagree with me.

Look, I think cooler heads need to prevail here and the topic needs to turn back to the Lions and not one another or I will shut this thread down.
