I used a set like (different brand) that for years for salmon. They worked great not sure for walleye you may have to just use a rubber band for a release so you know it fish is one. A big king will sure get your attion when he wacks a bait of one.

I tried the telescoping outriggers from Cabelas. They were fiberglass with the Church Tackle release on the end. We snapped them right off the bat. They will not handle salmon fishing. Walleye might be another story, but don't put too much load on them or they break like a toothpick.
A few years back a buddy of mine got some for Muskie fishing. Pulled a lure for about 5 minutes before the first one broke. Second one lasted till the first hit. He's runnig soild glass outriggers now.

fella's they do seem a little weak. i bought them for pulling #13 floating rapala's with no weight (maybe a split shot or two only) but now that i have them i thought that they would be good for pulling tots in the lake.they extend out to about 15 feet and some friends have said that that's not far enough for the walleye in erie. any one know of any stronger that are telescopic as i only have a alumacraft lunker that is 16.5 feet long ?

esox yes the planer boards; everyone i know uses them out on erie but i hear all the stories of getting them in a mess for all kinds of reasons. and that it takes awhile to really learn to control them so i thought that the outriggers seemed to be an alternative to them. as far as the flimsy outriggers from cabela's i found some online made by TACO in florida that are eighteen feet extended and less than six closed. and very sturdy. but if i'm all wet here please help me out with why. thank you !
