Going camping at Tawas State Park this weekend. No boat-just waders. Any suggestions on how/what to fish for? I'm easy to please- if it swims I like to catch it. Heard someone talking about catching channel cats off some pier around there at night. Zero knowledge about fishing in that area. Any advice will be much appreciated!

You can try wading around the Tawas river mouth. Might? be a king or two hanging out around there. Possible walleye at night time.
The piers in Oscoda should start producing some salmon soon. That is a short drive up 23 from the state park.
Good luck!

The channel cats you heard about were probably off the State dock in town. That would be a good bet at night for them. Also if your going at night there's a chance of a few walleye around. The inside of the dock usually has a few pike/smallmouth in it during the day. The lower Au Sable this time of year is usually loaded with smallmouth. The action, at times, can be fast and furious. Look for any sort of wood or structure to concentrate them. Also if your up by Oscoda check out the piers at night for cats/walleye and possibly salmon. Good Luck!
