I'm working on a new hunting outdoor TV show which will end up on DVD at some point. I have only a couple of questions that will help me with the foundation of this show. After all it's you the viewer who will watch or buy the videos.

1. What do you look for in a bowhunting video?
A. the kill
B. the content: tips, ideas or affordable hunts that anyone can do
C. Fellowship, fun
D. ?

2. What are your dislikes about other hunting shows that are out today?

I know these seem to be simple questions, but it will help me to give you the population what you want to see in a hunting video.

Feel free to email me if you would like.

Jim

Keeping the answers simple, I really enjoy the Drury videos, and the way they present themselves. Although many have fun videos to watch, the Drury brothers have down to earth feel to them.

I would like to see reality. No ranches, no over pushing the sponsers (it's like NASCAR anymore) I would like to see a public land hunt and someone not afraid to shoot a smaller buck. I liked good ole Fred Troast, he just kept it real and you don't see that anymore. It's all about the bigger the rack the better now. I don't want to have QDM pushed down my throat either, thats on every other show. Show me hunting, not killing. Take a kid out for their first time and get their reaction thats reality. Good luck with the show and keep us posted.

I agree. I am a QDM fan, but forcing it, no.

How about a complete follow through on the entire hunt. From scouting, to set up, to draggin him out? No ranches, no ATV's, no castle-in-the-sky blinds etc etc.
Public land, or at least non-cultivated private land. SHow everything that the majority of us have to go through. The kill shot is cool, but it's really only icing on the cake.
Another kind of annoying thing, is that all the videos I've seen, the guy is sporting state-of-the-art, all brand-new gear. I know they are all sponsored and stuff like that, it just seems :16suspect to me.

On thing I REALLY dislike are the edited in shots of the guy drawing the bow. Get as over the shoulder as possible like in Primos. The Drury's have some ok productions but all that edited crap takes away from the actual hunt. Like while the guy draws on a deer he's really going to have a camera down below him filming him...I mean give me a break.

Big Woods deer hunting would be great. I'm talking huge expanses of land, not a 320 acre woodlot in the middle of corn, beans etc., or on the edge of fringe country. Far from main roads and towns. Ex: U.P., Northern MN, Northern WI, Northern ME, Northern Ontario, Northern NH, ect.

Clear cuts, river bottoms in big woods, the different foods deer eat in the big woods, big woods rub lines and scrapes, the use of topo maps and aerial photos, migration, bluff country vs. flatland, low deer numbers, mental preparation, snowfall, the importance of swamps and cedars. All these could be incorporated into the video. No food-plots! I don't care for food plot hunting in wilderness areas....they're not so bad in areas closer to ag land though.

Bow, Gun, and Muzzleloader!

I just watched the free video that came with my Trykon from Drury Bros. and really like the way they did things. My buddy does semi-pro video and what he does is show the area he is hunting, gets the deer coming in, gets the shot on film, and goes from there. No 10 min. dialog or showing all the squirrels that are around. Keeps it simple.
