I have asked the Dont kNow Resourses the same question-they said yes you have to wear orange, Hunt tree rats from a tree--I'm to lazy for all that work. Give me a shotgun they'll fall to the ground.

I don't have the new rules book handy, but I belive in years past it has said something to the effect that restrictions on platform hunting is limited to gun hunting. Don't take that to the bank though.
Anyone have the new book handy?

Right from the guide put out by the Don't kNnow Resources, of course one needs to read it..........

You may not hunt with any device, or trap with a firearm, on any and during daylight hunting hours from August 15-April 30 unless you wear a hat, cap, vest, jacket or rain gear of highly visible color, commonly referred to as ”Hunter Orange.” During the November firearm deer season, this law applies to all deer hunters, including those hunting with a bow and arrow. The garment, featuring Hunter Orange, must be the outermost garment and must be visible from all sides. Camouflage orange garments, with 50 percent or more of the surface in Hunter Orange, are legal.

Exception: This law does not apply to persons hunting waterfowl, crow or wild turkey, or to archery bear hunters, or archery deer hunters except during the November firearm deer season.

All bow and crossbow hunters may hunt from a raised platform or tree stand, and bear and deer hunters may hunt from a raised platform or tree stand when using a firearm. All other firearm hunters are prohibited from using a raised platform or tree stand.

or bear with a firearm may use a scaffold, raised platform, or tree. A person taking fox or coyote with a firearm one-half
hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset may use a scaffold, raised platform, or tree, pursuant to all
other hunting regulations. In taking an animal, a person shall not do any of the following on publicly owned lands:.....

Boehr, I mean no insult to you, you are the ONLY dnr employee to ever give me a strait answer on questions I ask, I appologize to you. But every other C.O. i have ever dealt with has given vague anwers and in several instances seem to make things up as they go(things to issue tickets for) in 2 cases I was in counsel with the late Fred Trost and with his guidence both times the officers were found in the wrong and the ticket was thrown out.

As I have always said on this site, take down those individuals that have given a problem but don't stereotype a whole group of people because that just takes down the good people who do help too.

Squirrel hunting with a bow ? Interesting. What about coyote, coon, fox etc. Probably takes alot more skill then a gun.

Just getting tired of shooting 5 squirrels in one hour. And trying to teach my son patience while hunting, so using the bow this year seemed to be a good thing to do.

The best point boehr makes is read the guide. If you are concerned about a misunderstanding with a C.O. in the field carry one with you.
