I moved out by st johns marsh last year, and I'm looking for some some advice on fishing in the bouvier bay area, by buds restaurant, the raft restaurant and fairhaven launch area. Here's my
biggest problem right now....12' Lund and 5 horse Merc. Kind of limits the lengths of my trips.
I'm hoping some of you fine fishermen from this site could give me some pointers on fishing in this area that I now live in.....Thanks in advance

Joe.....I have done real well fishing that area. (Harsens Isl. too) Primarly in the spring and fall. Just about anything that swims in the lake will be in that bay at some time of the year. I like to troll harnesses and hotntots or rapalas. Tube jigs and spinnerbaits work well too. You don't have to travel far from the launch to find fish (usully) but watch the wind, a S or SE wind makes for a long fetch and some big waves. I haven't been out there yet ( only had the boat fixed a week) but am trying to go thur. Ill post a report if I make it out there.....

Joe_G,

I too live close by you... Same canal as Offshores Marina and I do extesive fishing close to home. Salmonslammer is right, it all depends on the time of year. Pike and Muskie in the spring, Bass in the summer and fall has some outstanding Perch fishing. Let me know if you want to hook up sometime and we can go in my boat if you like. I know of a great mid-summer walleye hotspot that I can turn you on to.

I used to fish that area quite a bit. I've not been out there for about 5 years, but I used to catch a lot of pike and walleye casting spoons. 9-14 ft of water, behind Buds.

GSEPAN,

How about sharing that walleye hole? Taking nephews out tomorrow night. Have all gear, just don't know what to use or where to go in Bouvier Bay. I've done good out in front of Grassy, south side between bouy's 9 and 5. Any info would help.

Thanks,

Hey Metroman,

The hole I'm speaking of is called the Baltimore Channel that runs on the east side of Grassy Island. I was out there last Monday and those pesky Marble-eyes haven't migrated into that area yet or at least I couldn't get one to hit my harnessess. This area is productive all through the summer months but I think that the water temp. just isn't quite right yet. I'm hoping for better luck within the next few weeks. If your interested in catching some Perch, I read that a few guy's were catching them out in front of McRay's (Formerly Bud's) but I'm not sure how far out. They said the hot ticket was small shiners but again I'm not sure on the type of rigging that was used. Joe_G and myself are gonna give it a try early morning Saturday so one of us will probably post results on Monday. Other then that I haven't been out much so far this year, got a "Honey-do" list a mile long...

Thanks for the info Gsepan. I'm very familiar with the Baltimore Cut. Got stuck in a sail boat there during a storm once with a girl friend about 22 years ago. Was stranded for about 5 hours. The girl friend is now my wife. Must of been something in the water. I'm going tonight. Will try harness's and bombers. Have usaully done good with the bombers out there by Grassy. Will probally cover both sides of the North Ch. Will post results tomorrow.

Baltimore Cut and the Baltimore Channel are two different things.

Cut and Channel are 2 seperate entities. Cut comes off the Sni Bora and the Channel comes off the North. Good catch...
