Been looking for a good knife sharping stone or kit of some sorts. I've seen the brand DMT diamond stones mentioned and Lansky. Does anyone have any experience with either of these products or have a suggestion for something better.
I have hunting on the mind lately, nothing like spending a little time in the basement sharping knives to get one in the hunting mood.

I use:
Norton Indie Combination Oilstone # 66 medium and course.
Smith's Medium Arkansas Stone
Smith's Fine Arkansas Stone
Smith's Extra Fine Arkansas stone
I have used these since about 1973. Since they will sharpen my knives to a razor edge I haven't bought anything newer.

Redi-Edge. One unit, small, compact and the best sharpener I've ever used.

Best I've ever used. These people also have an excellent book and a video on sharpening. I have both large and a small stones. I would highly recommend the larger stones. However, I do not recommend their arrow sharpening guide. It works great on the Bear Razorheads but not todays arrowheads.

I prefer the Lansky for at home. You can pick what kind of angle you want, and buy different grits. It holds the angle for you so you can't mess it up. For in the Field I prefer the Redi-Edge its quick and easy and puts a 20 degree angle on it.

Always used Lansky. I have a Buck 110 folder that I have used for 19 years now. Can't tell you how many deer, ducks, small game etc. I have cleaned with it. Not sure if it is the knife or the sharpener, but I love them both.
