Does anyone know the number of fish to be planted there this year?

Planting info for the section of river in Proud Lake Rec area for this year:

> Now for the information you wanted on the plantings in the upper Huron
>River
>in the Proud Lake Recreation area. Yes they will be planting again this
>year.
>Acording to Jeffrey Braunscheidel, one of the D.N.R. biologists for the
>Southeast Michigan area there is a standing request in the system for 1800
>adult brown trout and 1200 adult rainbow trout. The rainbows are not
>available
>from the D.N.R. hatcheries right now and the Proud Lake Rec. has been
>purchasing 1,000 12" rainbows instead. The exact number of browns depends
>on
>what the hatchery have available, but it is usually pretty close to 1,800.
>The
>exact numbers will be known when the fish are stocked(usually the day
>before
>the April 1 catch & release opener). They try to leave the informatio in
>the
>Rec. Area Office.

Ok, its time for the fist report on the Huron River.

Water is extemely low and holes are hard to find. Where they do exist, fish are stacked up pretty good. They had been pounded all day with every conceivable fly. Used a Betty McNault, which by change happens to be our fly of the month for April 2000. Had two on, landed one nice rainbow.

Fished Saturday morning with my spin rod and flies. I landed one nice rainbow going 15 inches. That made me happy so I gave my spot up to a kid trying to learn to use a fly rod. (Very few holes were open due to fishing pressure). He promptly caught a 12 inch rainbow. He then let me try his fly rod. I think I will have to search out a fly rod of my own. Great day!

Ya know its not the AuSable, but you can't beat being able to go out there on a weeknight even and catch some fish like that. Its a blast! I will be out there again this evening.... need some stress relief. It was definitely combat fishing on Saturday and a wonder that anyone caught fish by the afternoon. Those fish got an education fast! Hopefully we will start to get some hatches during the next couple of weeks.

Ok, you guys wanted pictures, you got em! Went 3 for 3 with the rainbow below being the first. All caught on midges and knats.

Fished the Huron on Saturday. Hooked up with two. There were probably 50 fish in the hole I was fishing, however they were pretty smart after being hooked so many times. I recieved a look nearly every cast yet rarely would they bite. I finally bought a fly rod and it was fun. I still enjoy casting a small spinner though.

Whoops, I forgot to post my results for Friday. Went 0 for 1. Hooked a nice one on a midge and after an acrobatic display, broke the tippet off at the fly line. Must have had a kink or knot in that tippet. Mtorzews, it seems like there are only a few good honey holes in the river right now with the water being so low. Unless you can get into one of those holes first you don't catch fish.

Fished the Huron in Proud Lake this evening. There where a few risers, but I couldn't get any takers. Just a few blue gills were the only hook-ups I got.
