I am thinking about taking 2-3 weeks off between Oct 1st and Nov 30th. I am trying to decide which weeks will be the best as far as the rut and deer activity during hunting hours. I hunt with both bow and gun. I am pretty sure the 1st week of gun season is going to be off. What about bow? Last week of Oct? The week before gun season? Oct 22-27?

If I could take three weeks off, it would be the last week of October and the first two weeks of November,....Or the first three weeks of October.

Nov 1st is a Thursday this year. So are you guys talking about nov 5th-17th? That way you could hunt gun or you just would take time for bow only? Sorry this could get confusing.

Easy, the first two weeks of November, or the week starting Oct 1st and the first full week of November.

Going against the grain here but I'm convinced that the best time to get a big boy with a bow is during the first week of bow season. They are still in their everyday summer patterns and have been undisturbed for months. If you have the time to get a couple of big boys patterned before the opener you might have some close encounters. Most hunters tend to stay out of the woods when the weather is still hot cuz it's uncomfortable and they don't think the deer will be moving. They still MOVE!!!!! The first five evenings of the 05 season were in the mid 70's, I was sweaty as all heck but saw lots of deer and did well! Gotta get those first two weeks of October in!

GUN
Nov: 15, 16, 19

If I had 3 weeks or 21 days which included the weekends it would look like this...

Oct 1st, 2nd and possibly Oct. 3rd depending if I have meat in the freezer after the first two days of bow? Then Nov. 3rd thru Thanksgiving or the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Take October 1st - 7th and then take November 3rd - 17th. This will give you the first week of bow to catch him while he is still in an early fall pattern. And then November 3rd will get you into the re-rut through opening weekend of gun season.

Just about like everyone else, the first two weeks in Nov. and then the whole week of gun season. As much as I enjoy to bow hunt the rut, I really, really enjoy being with friends and family during gun season. Everything that comes with gun season I look forward to ( well for the most part). There are about 5-6 guys that hunt with us on my uncles property for gun season, and I would not have it any other way. Its a great time!

Early Oct., than late Oct. into early Nov. I don't bow hunt from Nov. 10 till gun season to let the deer settle down & move onto my property while every body else are checking or building there blinds. I don't want to have to track a deer just before gun season any where near my sanctuary. It's worked for me. WW

Well said DKing - those are my sentiments as well. Early November is the time period that I set aside for serious hunting, but when firearm season arrives it's about time afield with family and friends. I love archery rut hunting and firearm season, but for entirely different reasons.

I like November 1-14. The 14th, in particular, has always been a lucky day for me in terms of buck sightings. Deer movement must be enhanced by the 700,000 gun hunters out there that day with their hammers, nails, and cordless power tools, banging together their blinds for the next day's hunt.

I always take the first week of bow season, the last week of oct. and the first week of novembor off from work. I been doing this for 4 years now.

Maybe next year I can get the last week of bow and the first week of gun season off. If not I will have the same set up as I do now.

 that should be illegal in all 50 states.

Well I actually put in for the first few days of bow season, a few days at the end of October, and a whole bunch of days from November 9th to Thanksgiving. I figure the worst that can happen is that I will get fired and have the whole 2 months off while I search for a new job:coolgleam

All I can say is that I hope everyone gets their requested days off this hunting season!

Actually had to move mine up this year to the end of September, drew a bear tag.:coolgleam I take my other two weeks with the lil man and his baby sister. Fortunate though, plenty of places close to home to hunt daily.
