I'm in the market for a pop-up blind. It needs to be large enough for my daughter and myself. She will be an observer(she'll be 5 soon) while I bow hunt. Anyone have any pro's and con's as to which blind to buy? I see there are tons of choices and brands... I don't want to break the bank nor do I want to buy a piece of junk either...
Thanks Ben

Not sure what brand but one thing I would do is get it out well before your first hunt. I used them a few times but always seem to get busted.

Go to GM in TC and they should have a few set up that you can try. If not, ask to set them up. The Penthouse is about the roomiest one for a decent price.

Keep track of the directions that tll you how to pack it back up! I can never seem to get the hang of it. I have a doghouse. Get a SHORT folding chair if you gat a doghouse. Otherwise, it is nice to hunt from.

 Sorry,... but I had to laugh at that chair comment. I just last year tried a regular metal folding chair in my Doghouse blind,... too tall.
Brought it back home and sawed off 3" from all four legs and took it back out.
PERFECT (with a small pillow to sit on it those metal seat chairs hurt after 3-4 hours ;) )

Mc Sports also usually has quite a few set out. From what I have heard spending more to get a better blind is worth it.
Oh they had a pretty good deal on an ameristep at Sams Club up here. It was set up sort of like a double bull and said it was made with scent lok technology or something like that. It was about $150.
I am talking about the stores in TC

I checked out MC Sports in Cadillac, not sure about other MC Sports shops, but they had a number of them setup. It was an eye opener seeing what some people thought was comfortable and usable. That is not a bad thing, jsut an eye opener and I would never amil order based without sitting in one first hand, we all draw and shoot in a differant way.

I have a Doghouse and found the windows too low no matter what chair I used. Try a recurve through one lol.
I ended up digging a hole in the middle of the blind, its deep enough to put my legs in up to my knees & it works like a 360 degree bench. SWEET setup, I can move from one side to the other very quietly. Boat cushion works for a seat.

Thanks guys, my wife would like you to all post your addresses so she can send a special thank you card for bringing this topic up.
After about an hour of sitting around in MC Sports today, I finally made up my mind and went with this unit.

I brought it home and set it up in the living room, I seriously thought she would be home much later.......

I bought an Ameristep G-30 for $100 last year and I like it alot. I can shoot my bow or gun out of it and the set up is quick. I like this one the best because it doesnt need stakes to hold it in everytime.

ben,
i have a doghouse that i have been using for 2 years now and this year i went to gander in tc and bought the ameristep grizzly unlike the doghouse the windows are high enough to shoot out of...(even with that long screamin eagle) and plenty of room for 3 people....
terry
dont know if i talked to you since but eric and i both scored last year during bear season up north:D
later man!
oh yeah that grizzly is 89.00
I've got a Doghouse and my then 4yr old daughter and I fit comfortabely in that, however with the 14yr old kid that's been going with me, it's a tad crowded.
Ameristep makes a "penthouse" that is bigger and under $200 for the Mossy Oak, the Tangle is $150 or so. It's quite tall too. Since I can't swing the price of a Double bull, I may settle for that Penthouse as my next one.
