There was recent discussion in another thread about the various health risks in hunting, and I got to wondering how many of you actually do some form of regular exercising. I don't care specifically what it is ie: weight training, cardio, etc. but just trying to get and idea of how many of you do more than just mow the lawn to get in shape.

In the summer I ride 75-100 miles a week on my bike and lift weights and do core work at the gym 2 or 3 times each week. I also try and get out to a local ski area and hike the hills. At 49 it amazes me the difference it makes in my stamina and enjoyment of hunting not to mention how much better I feel every day.

I concur with Skibum 100% I am 50 and exercise daily, I feel 20 because of it. I used to compete in powerlifting contests (Ironman), still can lift way more than most, do cardio daily and plan on enjoying life to 100. I watch what I eat, everything else in moderation. It makes a huge difference in my hunting and my life. I could go on and on, but just read anything about the corelation between exercise and health.

I stopped lifting weights when my wife got pregnant. My daughter is now 18 mounths so I am getting back into it. So I diet and exercise to stay healthy. I also do some 12oz-22oz curles on the week ends.;)

I try and do something everyday. Bike, yoga, lift weights and chase grandkds:lol: and at 51 it's so cool when some one thinks my granddaughter is my actual daughter:lol: Working out helps me with stress and chronic back/body pain as well. As we get older those bones and joints get stiffer and weaker. Like the saying goes" pay me now or pay me later".....M:D
I do around 5 hours per week. Weightlifting and cardio, it used to be more but with 2 kids under 5 y/o I find less time to exercise.

Along with stretching, pushups and situps:
Cross country ski and snowshoe - January through March
Mountain bike - April through September
After that, hunting is my exercise for the rest of the year
This is on top of normal physical chores like snowblowing, making firewood, etc and misc stuff like shooting the bow, hanging stands, and scouting...
I think it helps to be in shape when hunting because it's no problem to go a little further back and you're pretty sure you're not gonna have the big one while draggin your deer out ;)
But like TS said recently, if you gotta go that's a pretty good way to do so....

I usually work out 1 to 1 1/2 hrs 3-4 times a week. I mainly stick to cardio but still try and fit in weightlifting. Usually my workout consists of 20minutes on the treadmill, approximately 2 miles, 30minutes on the erge and the remainder is concentrated on my stomach and weightlifing.

On a serious note, my job is pretty physical alot so, other than work. I do not do alot of working out like I used to, however am in pretty good health and physical shape.
30 lbs of tool climbing a 60 foot crane, up and down flights of stairs all day, walk in excess of 3 miles every day at work.

I decided about 8 weeks ago to loose some weight and begin to excercise for the upcoming season and because I was at an all time high in weight. I have dropped 26 pounds in the past 8 weeks and I've been walking 45 minutes a day with the Beagle (she could loose some weight as well). I figured at 42 and overwieght I needed to do something.
Now I'll be ready for bow hunting, Gobbler chasing and bunny chasing (the beagle will be ready as well)

I put in 1 1/2 hours a day everyday doing mostly cardio exercise that includes 4miles a day on a treadmill.
Exercise? I guess so. I have very good help at the sales counter at work, so I go out in the yard and play. OOPS I mean work out. I generally throw around somewhere between 10-20,000# of roofing, siding and lumber a day building loads. If I don't get out for a couple days I go nuts and my joints all start acting up.
Other than that there is daily biking, hiking and sports with the kids. Can't figure out why I am still a fat pig.
Got to grab another breakfast twinkie, have to leave for work shortly.
Excercise? Uh, no. Do I need to? Yup. I have the stamina of someone twice my age. I could lose enough weight to make a whole other person. I gotta do something soon before I'm one of those guys you hear about having a chest grabber dragging a deer out.
Just getting up and doing it is where I go wrong. At the end of the day, as I sit there watching TV, I think "hmmm....I should have excercised today." Probably should start that thought process earlier in the day.

You just need to do it. Make up your mind and don't let anything stop you. Do it for 8 weeks no matter how much you want to climb on the couch, just keep telling yourself "it's only 8 weeks". At the end of those 8 weeks you will be a believer.

I hit the exersise bike for about an hour, every night. And yes, on weekends too.
I also have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, which has helped me loose a few pounds but also gives me a little more energy.

When I was in the service I used to work about in the 11-15 hours a week on top of carrying a ruck around when doing stuff. Honestly, now all I've been doing is 12 oz arm curls. Now I'm trying to get into the border patrol so I have to get off of my lazy ****!!:lol: Dang, who and the heck works out more than 21 hours a week? My honest opinion there's a certain amount of rest that your body needs as well. That almost sounds unproductive and obsessive. You'd be tearing up your body more than doing good working out at an aggressive rate for that many hours a week IMHO.

Well I dont neccesarily work out but the work I do is a workout. My job kicks my butt. Eight hours a night of lifting and speed walking. I also kayak and fish almost everyday. I can paddle upstream for miles without getting winded. On labor day weekend I hiked three miles with a 40lb pack on my back while dragging a 50lb kayak. I went up and down hills, through sand dunes. I had to stop a couple of times but I did alot better than my buddys who didnt even have a kayak strapped to them. So I think Im in good shape and will not hopefully have any problems come hunting season.

It was a deal I couldn't refuse. A Therapy Department was closing and they wanted this gone. They were gonna pay someone to just scrap it if they couldn't sell it. I got it for about 10% of it's value.. I had to take it apart and move it..

Trying.
Turned 40 Feb of this year.
Gradually since then, I have lost 30 lbs and about 3 inches on the waist of my Levis.
I hike in the parks around me, and do the Precore at the gym a few days a week for 45 minutes.
I kind of work a lot, but I keep a curl bar and a couple dumbbells in my home office, and I grab sets in between stuff randomly.
Slow going, but I am trying.

I try to run at least 4 days a week and the workouts vary from 35 min to about an hour, warm up and cool down included. I LOVE running! I do, however, need to get into the habit of working in some cross training like cycling or such.
