My dad called me up yesterday and tells me he wants to come out and go salmon fishing and to set up the charter. I think great! After I hung up I did some thinking....Seeing as how we are through august and this weekend is labor and I'm in mexico in the middle of the month for 7 days (15th through 22nd)and I'm already going fishing on the 8th, the soonest weekend I could do it would be the 29th. Are the salmon still good then? I'd be looking at something around St. Joes as we'd be driving in from Ann Arbor area (they are driving in from PA.) If I can't make the 29th work then I'm looking at mid-October but none of the charters I looked at quickly even list anything then.

Thanks!

You can catch kings till the lake turns to ice...

I fish the piers from now till I am to cold and then i move up the rivers.

8-18 of september (Pier rat)
23-30 of september (Pier rat)

sencond or third week in october (off to the river)

November back to the big lake:)

Do they do charters in the river? Never been much for salmon fishing so I'm not sure how they run them.

Problem is most charters pull their boats in Mid Sept. Typically lake MI is somewhat on the "un-happy" side in the fall. Strong winds kept me off the water mid sept and almost all of Oct. last season. My last trip was Oct 25th and we were 35 for ? in 3 hrs. It was worth the wait :). If you can get out, they are there all season long. I know, I've been out on the big water trolling every month of the year, including Dec, Jan and Feb.

Your best bet to find a Late season Charter is Pole Cat outta Ludville. He's the 1st one in (Only guy to beat me in this yr), last one out.

October can be some great fishing like Bum said! Alot of 2 and 3 year old kings and steelhead!!
There are river guides that do salmon fishing which can be a blast and it never gets rough>>>LOL!! If you intrested in a river trip send me a private message and i can hook you up!!

I second POLE KAT out of Ludington he will get ya on the fish. Douglas is a gentleman and his boat/equipment are very well taken care of.

I guess I have to figure what it "drive-able" for a morning. Maybe we'd have to go to my in-laws in gaylord and then go from there in the morning. Who knows.... It sucks not having time to fish, but not having time to fish cause you're fishing/hunting/vacationing....that's a good problem!

Rooms at that time of year are very affordable also, trust me it is worth it.

I have fished that late and it can be great. Your chances of a day you can get out just gets less with every day after the first week in September.

In shallow, bronze and Orange spoons, body baits, almost like early spring.
