A two mile dredging project is now under way
The project was one of great concern and oppossition. The cost for the 2 miles was greater than an alternative river restoration project that cleared beaver damns and brush, and would use the creeks spring flood waters to help improve flow.
Farmers in the upper Mill creek zone said that the creek no longer drained the farmland well enough. As always the impact on the enviroment and the beauty of the creek were not an issue. The creek was deemed a county drain long ago and was dredged last in the 50s.The creek runs into the Black river in the Port Huron SGA.The impact of flooding is a major concern all the way to Port Huron.Historic flood plains are being farmed without thought that they are floodplains.Taxpayers will pay for the project.Drain commissioners have lots of power!
