Guys,
I'm finally able to fish next week (just had my first child 2 months ago) and I'm thinking either the white flies down below Mio or maybe some evening fishing on the South Branch.

Here's the rub. I'll have a beginner with me so I'd like to show him some fish or at least some fish feeding so he will get hooked like the rest of us. If it was just me it would be the SB for sure with some mice.

I've only fished below mio out of a boat so I don't know any good wading areas. Are there areas beginner could wade down there? Not looking for secret holes just areas to access that fish may or may not be looking up!

If we bail on the big water what's been going on in the evenings on the SB? Please feel free to PM me. Thanks for the heads up.....
Steve

I was just up last week. I didn't hit the south but did swing down to Mio end of the week when the temps cooled off. The river was very low. The fish where dialed in on the olives and briefly switched to the whited when they dropped. However they soon shut off when 10 million bugs covered the river. It was a helluva dump of bugs. The most i've ever seen. The fishing was great up till then.

I would swing by Linsenmans shop for access info...

That is a mess of bugs. Hopefully they'll calm down a bit by the end of the week. Thanks.

I was up there this last weekend and there were a ba-zillion Trico's (more morning than eve), & and almost no other fisherman...campgrounds were even pretty bare (& cold with the burning ban!!). anyway, I think trico hatch + brookies = happy newbie. water is low & cool

Was up to Mio for a day trip on Tuesday. took the wife and 2 of my kids. Found that a canoe ride from Parmalee to the whirlpool was just long enough. Some great fishing thru those waters too. Not too much action on the fly rod, but they tore up the mepps. No pics though. Camera battery died. If you want more info, PM me. I can give you the name of the canoe and cabin place we stayed. Very accommodating.

I was wading off the campground loop from 2-4:30 on Sunday. Had good luck on olives and streamers. Pretty much the same thing the previous weekend....honestly, I don't think you can go wrong below Mio.

The other good news is that, in just one week, the canoe/tube traffic went from ungodly to almost non-existent. I'm sure the chilly weather had a lot to do with that, though
