imp or bore NO buckshot, It would be a bad experiance for her to shoot one with buckshot and then lose it. It would be her first and last time hunting for her if that happened most likely. Good luck to the both of you, glad you got her interested.

I gave my old Rem. 30-06 to my wife and had it mag-na-ported. The kick is about the same as a 20 ga. slug. I don't know where you hunt, maybe you can only use a shotgun, if that's the case maybe you could get her a 12 ga. ported. My wife is 7 for 7 with that gun. (Of course I gut them, drag them out and zero in the gun but she's the hunter)

No problem killing a deer with a 20 ga. A rifled barrel is the best way to go but a smoothbore will work. Generally the most open choke you have is the best for slugs or look into a rifled choke tube if one is available. Most of the modern saboted slugs perform best from a rifled barrel. I'd get my hands on some Lightfields to try first. I've had good luck with them from both rifled and smoothbore barrels. Most important of all is what are you planning to use for sights? You need more than just a vent rib and front bead. I'm a firm believer in either scopes or red dot sights for slug guns. Shotgun, rifle, ML, or bow nothing compensates for shot placement.

buy her a auto 20 SP remington deer gun..they are accurate..about 500.00
a rifled slug barrel for your berretta will cost almost that much

I bought a H&R 20 gauge for my 14 year old daughter. Its a real shooter and kicks very little. She'll burn a box of shells without even thinking twice about recoil. It was only around $200 and then I put a Leupold scope on it.
We'll be in the woods with it next month for the youth hunt.:D I can 't wait and neither can she.

I'll second Deepwood's motion. An H&R Ultra Slug gun toped off with a decent scope is more accurate and shooter friendly than any other factory slug gun on the market. Definetely true in the 20 gauge model. The Browning bolt action slug gun, Mossberg 185 and the Savage M210 are all very good also, but in our experiences, not as accurate. The fact that the Ultra is a single shot has never been an issue. Never needed more than one shot.
If you can't "go there", best I can suggest is to try different slug compatible chokes and different slugs to see what works. Been down that road several times. Once we started playing with true slug guns, we never looked back. Can't see scratching my head over why I can't hit a paper plate every time at 50 yards, when they make guns now that will produce 3 shot groups that touch.. at 125 yards.

well after talking to the boss,we decided to go to the range and throw some lead out of the 20ga and see how it does.and go from there i just dont want to drop $200 on a gun that she might use one season, and not enjoy the experince of hunting, then stuck with another 12 ga.,lord knows i need another gun like another wife.i might talk her in to a 45cal muzzy loader..thanks for the suggestions guys...happy hunting
