Local farmer hauls them to his fields where his spreads them and turns them under.....great fertilizer, unless your downwind. Make sure you scan to the right of the pic to see the big truck load.

I saw the top of the graphic and scrolled down. Holy cow- that's a lot of carp! I look on the bottom of the screen and I see "Wildlife fed our pioneers; Today it feeds the hungry." WHAT?!?!!! Sick b@$tards feeding the hungry with a bunch of carp in a dumptruck!!! Then I went back up and read the caption. ;) :D Just about laughed my head off! :)

Ruler~ I guess I should make it clear that the Great lakes Bowfishing Championship and The Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger are in no way related......LOL:D

gee, what can i say. Neal, are you and your band of merry men gonna thin out the population of any other waters?

Neal

Shametamer~Nope this is a annual event that is a fundraiser for the Wildlife Education Foundation, which is basically a kids camp that my family runs in Caseville. It is the facility that Nugent has his Kamp for kids at. We put about 3000-4000 kids through the camp each year teaching them about conservation, archery, plant/animal identification, etc.

For more info on other bowfishing activities in Michigan go to the Bowfishing Association of Michigan's website at: http://www.bowfishbam.com/ (http://)

P.S. There is nothing Merry about 500 guys who just spent the day hauling tons of dead fish:D

hope u realize the merry men crack, was tongue-in-cheek reference to robin hood. have heard of the good work u do, and appreciate it. Knowing the DNR manually removes undesirable fish from some lakes, I was wondering if they ever enlisted the bowhunters to help cull undesirables from a lake.

Yes, I know you were goofing.........It's funny to watch these guys go out in the morning all Gung Ho, then return dragging their arses.

I have not heard of the DNR encouraging carp population control. It may be because the carp are only detrimental to other wildlife for a short time in the Spring while spawning. Their violent spawning ritual destroys bottom growing vegetation that waterfowl feed on and destroy game fish beds, such as bass and Bluegill. After spawning they return to the deeper waters.

Ahh Haa it is you Neadlemeyer! Not Snakely but a cohort of his and so the mystery deepens. (Snakely could not master the internet - nor check in with fishing sites....his is more along the lines of flippin' burgers and video games I think).

Ahhh, I harken back.....to the days of grey Gran Torino's and Rough waters 'twixt the Les Cheneaux's and Mackinaw. Stanford and Hubert and twisted games of 'shoes and horse.

C'mon Neal - this ain't hard!

Hmmmmm......A cohort of Snakelys?, I must search low into the bowels of humanity to figure this one out. With the name Wareagle this could be TIM H. (Zotesbag)? Wait a minute!! You could be a chick.....are you a chick? You mentioned the Torino, were you ever in the back seat? Nope, nevermind lets make this easier, were you never in the back seat:eek:

I think this demands a Save The Carp Society.....like Save the Whales or whatever......a great sadness came over me when I saw my favorite fish like this...........Ok....Ok....seriously...I have fed my garden very often with these great fish....but I always thank them before plantin them. Everyone would ask....what the heck do you feed your plants?!?.......you should sell your secret!

HOLY CARP!!!

That is a lot o fish. They got those all in one weekend? Wow! I am getting tired just thinking about pulling all those fish out of the water.

Neal

Bangbang, That is where the fish go.......into a local farmer's field.

Rabbit Whacker, That is one of the biggest tricks of winning this contest........getting the fish from point A to point B. You would be surprised to see how many guys go out with an empty boat and hit botton 100 yards from the ramp when coming back full........quite entertaining:D

That reminds me of the first time I took my boat out. Itwas a 15 foot Four Winds. I was runnin it on Walled Lake and it had some water in it.....so I took the drain plugs out for a couple minutes to drain the water. I could not get them back in so I had to run my boat right up my soft sandy beach. I hit the one rock that was on the beach and put a nice indentatioin in the hull. It was ok though. LOL
