View Full Version : Arrows just for practice?

Do you folks use arrows just for practice and have some just for hunting? I have a half dozen arrows and I'm thinking of getting more, but I'm wondering if it's really necessary to buy a few arrows just to sit around and never use them for anything but hunting? And if that's the case, should they be shot a few times to make sure they perform like the practice arrows? All my practice arrows perform beautifully and I've taken the same arrows with me when hunting but I'm not sure if that's a bad idea or not.

That would depend on if you are using carbon arrows or aluminum. Aluminums, I would have a few best arrows for hunting and others for practicing. Carbons I don't think I would worry about it, I am not going to...this is the first year I am trying carbons. Part of the reason I switched is for the reason I just gave above.

I have a dozen arrows~6 of them are strictly for target practice and the other six are set up w/ broadheads. I shoot the 6 practice all the time, then closer to the season (early-mid Sept. ) I pull out the broadhead ones and practice w/ those to make sure those are dead on and flying straight as well.

My bow, sight, rest, release, tips....etc that I hunt with are the same thing I practice with. Same with my arrows

I use carbons and when I buy a dozen I use the device at the pro shop to tell which ones are the straightest. I mark the 4 or 5 that are the best and use them for hunting. I only shoot them with broadheads enough to make sure they fly true which can be allot. But the bulk of my practice is done with the other 6-8 arrows.

I usually only shoot 6 at a time any wase becouse I have 6 spots on my target. If I shoot at one spot more than once it usually means I loose a nock or my fletching gets torn up. Which still happens becouse sometimes at longer yardages I cant see which ones I shot at and forget. :)
