I am trying to get a cousin of mine into bow hunting this year. He recently went through a divorce so will have some extra time on his hands so what a great opportunity to get into bow hunting. I am trying to get him into the sport fairly cheap. I have a friend who's buddy has a Proline New Wave (about 7 yrs old) with arrows, quiver, rest, sight and is selling for $225. Should I look into this or start him in a used hoyt, matthews, reflex, martin, diamond, pse? I am not sure the quality does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Pro-line made ok stuff, not great but ok. It would be ok to get him started on, given the age of the bow and the fact that the company is no longer in business(to the best of my knowladge-my father-n-law has one too) I would try to talk at least $50 of that price though. good luck.

My brother has a Pro Line, He used to have 90 lb. limbs on it, but after he broke two sets he switched to 80 lb. limbs. He still shoots it. For $225. I think you might find something better for your money. But if the bow fits him it might not be a bad deal. Good Luck

If the arrows are to long or fit him just right I would try to get that bow for less money for him. If the arrows are to short for his draw length it wouldnt be worth it unless he got it for 100 bucks.

There are just to many way better used bows out there in that price range.

Look on ebay or archerytalk classifieds for some great deals on bows.

I have seen Hoyt Mt sports? go all set up for around 200 or less. This is a great starter bow as it has a built in adjustable draw length. A mathews you might have to spend money on new cams to adjust the draw length if im not mistaken.

I just had the top limb bolt pull out as I was drawing back, and now i have to have helicoils put in. Sure it was a fluke but put a bad taste in my mouth

That Martin ninja posted is a way better bow and newer, and martin is still in business.

Proline is no longer in business, they were bought out by or sold to Darton, which handles any warrenty claims. They do make a "Pro" line of about 5 or 6 models but it seems that the base company is gone.

Kinda a sad in a way I believe they were a Mich. based company.

Pro line made a good bow in the early 90's. Almost everybody I knew, including myself shot one. They were the bow to have if you lived in Mid Michigan. If that bow is truly a new wave, it's older than 7 years, likely more like 10-12 years old. I still have my old New Wave, but it doesn't compare to bows today. I wouldn't give more than $100 bucks for it imo.

Tons of good deals on used equipment out there. Head down to Ninja's shop and let him set up the rookie the right way the first time.

That Martin Jaguar is a solid bow for the money...martin has a great reputation for building bows that last.

proline was made in Hastings initially, then darton bought them out, and they were made in Hale I believe. I think that often times when a bow explodes, its a proline ( or pse, Pull Shoot Explode - lol ).

It's kinda funny you say that because the only other bow I have seen blow up was a Pse and now a proline

All very helpful, thanks guys. That was the feeling I was getting but I was not familiar with the Proline Bow so I wanted to make sure. Ninja I may be over to see you in a week or so.
