Whew, cold and wet was the weekend. There were sulfers and a few drakes Friday...some fun fishing and the rain hit and just never let up for most of the weekend. We caught fish on South branch below Chase bridge area. Main steam, nothing huge but a fish now and then. Most luck was with wet flies swung in the current. Went to Mio section, one of our crew buggerd some fish, again, high winds and wet. Sunday night the rain stopped and mahoganies ruled. One of our crew had the right Mahogany spinner and started to land fish, 5x tipped and in 5 casts 3 fish over 13 inches. 4x tippet just too big for these fish and it was dusk.
My sons first big fishing trip, he only fell in twice, yep up to his neck. Water temps dropped to around 55 or lower from rain and no sun so fish did not seem as active.

BFF,

I also fished at Chase br. on Friday. I think I might have talked to you. If you are the guy I'm thinking of, we arrived at about the same time. I was driving a bluish green Ford F150 pickup. Were you driving a small silver colored station wagon?

Hi Bink,
I do not think that was me, I was with 5 guys, one of which was a really short person, my son. We were driving a ford 350, white. Ended up parking on north side of river a couple turnouts in. As we left, two older gentemen were getting in, somehow they knew the sherrif was looking for us. We got in as a group of people were starting a float, red canoes, lots of rain gear.

BFF,

It must have been some other person from Ann Arbor. Seams there are a lot of people that travel quite a ways to get up there. I for one travel back and forth between there and Midland quite regularly.

I only fished Friday evening from about 7:30pm to 10. I patiently waited for a hatch that never happened. At least it didn't happen before 10pm. How late did you fish on Friday and did anything come off that night?

Bink, I fished till about 11:30pm on Friday..had light hatch of dorthea, a bit of mahogany, plenty of caddis but remember, I was on the mainstream below Pine road but above Wakley. Fish were taking a bit of everything, caught some on roberts yellow drake, a few on caddis, a few on wet fly swinging it and suggesting a caddis wet. Saw one or two Brown drakes pop off but nada on emerger or drake flies. Streamers did not produce, the river was really shutting down with pockets of activity. We were on the water Sat on Southbranch.
