View Full Version : Looking for some help on Lake Trout
Ive got a trip comming up to go to Dog Lake in Ontario. The lake has some spots that are 245 ft deep and supposta have lake trout in it. What would I use/do to try to catch a few? Never tried it before. Thanks

When is the trip? Is it guided at all? What kind of tackle is at your disposal-or what's your budget for new? Any other info about the lake or how "they do it up there"?

dynamite, large rock, big scoop net and a fast boat and your all set :lol::lol:.
Try to get ahold of a local bait store or guide service on the lake to see what there useing.jigging lagre hopkin spoons or swidish pimples would probaly be a good bet.
Were leaving the US on the 25th and returnig on the 1st. We plan on fishing mostly walleye but this will be my first trip up there. Ill be going w/ a group of older guys that have gone for a few years. Walleye will be #1, Perch #2, Pike #3 and I thought if there was any time left I'd try Trout. Ive got some swidish pimp. and some spoons. But I dont know what to do with them. Thanks for your help.

Get some 1 to 2 oz jigs and some Berkley Gulp either a grub or a minnow type, probably white and or natural colors! Good Luck!!

Just read the extra details you posted. With all of that going on I'll second the jig advice. Airplane jigs and BIG bucktails tipped with a ciscoe, sucker, or belly meat of another fish would be my top choices.
Have a good trip and good luck...maybe shoot a report to us and add some pics!
