I planned on heading up to some NE rivers next week to search for Kings, but the weather and water levels seem to slow things down. Is it really worth it for me to drive up there? I'm not looking for "walk across the river" numbers, but something fishable would be nice.

and try the St Mary's. It's a bit early for the kings, but there should be some around as well as pinks and Atlantics.

I was just on the PM last weekend south of Baldwin and only saw one Salmon Friday-Sunday. If your interested in catching Browns my group did fairly well starting after dusk.
Good Luck

I was up in NE michigan this weekend and seen one king at the mouth of a river. However, it was white and nasty already. That was the only king I seen up there. Must have went up early or was a little retarded concidering this river was 78 deg. The pier fishing was extremely slllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww wwwwwwwwwwwww also. I wouldn't even waste your time chasing kings unless your off a pier but that is still very hit or miss, and more misses then hit.

I hit a nw river last weekend despite everything I heard said stay home, ended up getting my first salmon of the year and a beautifull 22-23in. brown, and my buddy hit nice chrome, 5-6lbs skamani. So if you really wanna fish just go and give it a try, tahts the best way to get areport. Good luck, Sparks

Hey Stel,
What length net handle do you need off the piers in oscoda these days?? Been a couple years since I've been up and I want to make a couple of late nut runs for sure this year!!!
Thanks,
Scott

HEy scotto,
I use a 6 foot handle to net fish off the pier but you need help doing it unless you can be on your belly, fight the fish, and then net it all at the same time:lol:

What I've done in the past and has worked quite well, is go with about a 5ft longer than needed net handle. Then attatched a large loop to the end of it. You can put your arm through the loop and keep a couple feet back from the edge of the pier so I can rest the net handle on it. Then once I get the fish worn down enough I can take those couple steps forward so the net is in the water and its just a matter of guiding the fish into the net. Used to make a lot of solo runs to Sanilac, Oscoda and Harbor Beach. Learned through trial and error, but the system seams to work ok??:)
