First timer on this site, Great job to all involved in getting it going. Was wondering if anybody has any information on how the ausable has been fishing as of lately. Been busy deer hunting, time to get a freak on the river.

Thanks to all who reply.
Grizzly.

Nice to see some of the guys from the other site here. To much whinning on the other one.

Not much happening up there. I talked to a friend of mine from Oscoda, this morning. Some fish taken off the pier. It's been extremely cold the past few days. Some shelf ice. I'd try the deep slow holes near the dam, below the blockhouse.

Hey Grizz, b.t.w. welcome to our site, it's by all means the best, with the most helpful members. I thought about your question and would suggest you check out the the Thunder Bay river in Alpena. It has deep water access and it's short. It's up-stream limit is 9th street and a short run from the mouth. Thunder Bay is full of browns and steelhead. It will test your water reading ability, since it has lots of gravel bars and slow eddies near the dam.
Try the traditional baits such as wigglers (2 on a hook with a small styrofoam bead at the top of the hook),wax worms or spawn. One year we did great on 1/2 a nightcrawler with a #14 corkie. If you go, keep us posted.

I have a cabin on the ausable river 3 1/2 miles upriver from the parmalee bridge witch is about 11 miles upriver from mio. If anyone knows if the river is frozen or if the level is up or down i would appreaciate any info you have. I haven't been up since deer season and then there was less snow then downstate. with all the snow now i cant even get close to the area without a snowmobile. does the amount of snow and the severity of winter have any effect on the insect hatch in the spring. Looking forward to the end of April. cant wait. Havent missed a opener in 20 years. I must admit that is because it is allways on a weekend unlike deer season. I havent missed a opener of deer season either but that is because it is deer season and you do whatever you have to do to make the opener of that.
