Hey everyone - I do not claim to be an expert on this subject, but I received this email from someone that I trust and have looked into it and it seems to be very real.

Please look for yourself and form an opinion, to me it seems like a no brainer to try to stop BP's proposed actions.

Dear Friend,

British Petroleum is poised to start dumping up to 1,584 pounds of ammonia and 4,925 pounds of industrial solids into Lake Michigan every single day.

Senator Dick Durbin and Congressman Rahm Emanuel have set up an online petition to stop these plans in their tracks. They'll be presenting the petition at a meeting with BP on September 1st.

Please join me by signing their petition to BP here:

Thanks for the info Boyd. I also under stand the Michigan supreme court ruled recently to allow Nestle bottled water to siphon their water from Lake Michigan. The court ruled that Siphoning water does not harm the lake there fore it is ok. The vote was 4 for, 1 nay, The four justices that voted claim this did not harm the lake. All 4 appointed by non other than John Engler. I hope they bottle the BP discharge!

While I don't agree with allowing a company to dump waste into the waterway, I don't see how allowing Nestle to siphon water is any different than the cities that do it that in turn sell it to residents for watering their yards, a business to operate a Carwash or a golf course to water the fairways for that matter.

Marble eyes- First off I would be happy to send you my water bill. Second the bill was signed in roughly 1972 that is in place to protect our great lakes from any kind harm. You are right Nestle taking a few hundred thousand gallons of water a year is no a huge deal. But then again the laws were passed so that this type of thing would not happen.
