Got a receipt for the nice shiners I bought yesterday at Lakeside(not sure if I needed to keep it if I was not going to canada?, or do they want you to keep the receipt so they know you did not buy the shiners in Canada?) and went out a mile or so from eight mile. Got lucky on my first spot and never moved, got 30 keeper perch and handfull of smallies. Biggest smallie was 17 in. Missed a huge fish, could not get it off the bottom, maybee a big cat, lost a slip bobber set up:mad:. Had a good time by myself, and the rain clouds missed me all afternoon. Looks like the perchin may start early this fall. tightlinesyall

Whether you agree or not, the point is to avoid the introduction of foreign species.

And for the record, there are a lot oa anal restrictions on Canadians fishing in US waters also.

Yes a fish with VHS can't swim over the border without a passport.
It's not the minnows it the ships bringing in the foreign species.
I say forget the minnows and use the Gulp:corkysm55
Canadians fishing in the US can only drink american beer and vice versa for Americans in Canada:lol::lol:

Reciept is needed for minnows in U.S. and Canada. The reciept is only good for 7 days. DNR at LSCWA meeting said they can ask for the reciept, although minnows being used in already infected bodies of water most likley the officer will not be very concerned (common sense). Now if the minnows are on inland waterways that are not yet infected you best have the reciept handy.

As far as I'm concerned, I tell the bait shops to keep them foolish receipts and save them for the outhouses. When the freighters show their receipts, I'll show mine.

VHS is a virus and that means a bunch of little critters and I do believe that these little critters are an invasive specie. First appeared in Lake Erie and the critters are now moving upstream.

The receipt is to show if the minnows came from virus free water and can therefore be used anywhere in the state. If they came from waters that already have the VHS then the minnows might already be carriers of the virus. If that is the case then the minnows can only be used in waters that already have the virus present and the receipt will show it.
