Hey fellas i just moved to farmington hills from the thumb at the start of the year. All my deer hunting ground is back home in the sandusky area. I take my dogs to some parks in the area that allow archery hunting. I have been scouting alot lately and found some areas that look decent at least. I went and checked out some of the bigger areas like bald mountian and kensington but dont evan know whare to start with that much land. Anyone have any luck in metro detriot??

Drive back to Sandusky, you won't like public land hunting. Maybe we can carpool.:)

:lol:LMAO,,, ain't that the truth:lol:. BTW,,, can I have a ride too, LOL.
On a serious note,,, I used to hunt around the Jackson area(Race rd), lot's of hunters but for the most part everyone was respectful of where other hunters were at and real friendly. I could get from my door to my blind in 55 minutes from roughly the same area as you Chad.

Again, GO HOME!
Most of the land around the Detroit area is very high pressure. If you had family land or a lease get back to it. I hunted Kingston for years and lost the lease, ain't much room down here!! Friggin urban sprawl!
I think we need more vacant shopping centers, strip malls, dollar stores, smoke shoppes, and cell phone stores!!!!! NNNNOOOOOOTTTT!!

I will be back home on most weekends during the season. I have been out 3 more times scince the first post and have lots of faith for a few spots marked on the gps. Was out before sunrise sunday and seen 2 bucks around 830 working a trail through a swamp thicket, the 1 buck was bigger than anthing i have seen back home in a long time. Only bad thing is the 3 mile trek back to the spot.

If you're a deer hunter, and you live in SE Michigan, you must adjust yourself to longer commuting distances to your hunting grounds. You're not alone - there's hundreds of thousands of hunters in the southeast part of this state, and practically none of them hunt in their back yards.
Guys that live in more rural areas usually have a different perspective on this, finding it hard to fathom driving an hour and a half or more to get to their hunting spot. I know a number of guys who think nothing of driving two hours, one way, for an evening hunt, then returning home that night, and off to work the next day. Some of these guys, come to think of it, hunt in Sanilac County.
A few years ago, a friend of mine who lives near Jackson was visiting my farm in NE Hillsdale County. He really floored me when he remarked, "This looks like a great area, but I could never hunt around here, it's just too long a drive for me." And here we were, no more than thirty minutes from his back door! Talk about a huge difference in perspective.
I concur with Sargeyork; Sandusky sounds like your best bet.

I drive 45 mins. to my hunting spot in Jackson county, and 1.5 hrs. to my spot in Hillsdale county.
Is there alot of hunting land between my and there yes but, it is land that I know and like to hunt.
Good Luck,

We hunted Holly Rec area two years ago with pretty good success. Not huge bucks but nice ones. I do know of one huge buck shot on the public land there. We have now have a place to oto on the weekends so don't spend much time there anymore.

I have bow hunted around the proud lake recreation area in Wixom. As of last year you could still bowhunt out there. Take I-96W to Wixom Exit then turn right, go all the way end (about a mile) make a right then a quick left (this should be a continuation of Wixom Rd), go to the end (about 3 miles), turn left and follow it, it will make a big curve to the right, at that point everything on the left is huntable. If you continue to follow this road to Sleeth road and turn right, this is all huntable up to Bass Lake Road. If you go to the left after you pass Sleeth road, everthing on your left is huntable. Go to www.maps.live.com and put in Wixom, Michigan in the search for city and state. You can see it with a regular map or aerial or hybrid. if you have any further questions you can PM me.

Deer hunting can be quite crowded around detroit. But small game hunting can be quite good without too much pressure.
