I just started hunting last fall (with no luck) and plan on buying a bow this weekend (already looked around and have one picked out) to hunt with this year. I plan to buy a combination license and want to get a private land antlerless for one of the special reg units in z2 but since you are not allowed to buy more than one antlerless license in a single day, is the regular combo license included in this? Can I or can I not buy the combo and antlerless in the same day? Am I putting too much thought into this?

You can buy them both the same day.

Make sure you have the name and phone number of the property owner. Also, double check your unit designation before you buy your license. If you know this already sorry, it was a mistake I almost made when I first started.

The regular combo license is considered a buck license and is not included. They mean that you can not buy more than one antlerless license per day. Welcome to the world of hunting and don't worry about scoring on a deer. Just concentrate on learning as much as possible about deer habitat, food sources and deer psychology and it will happen. I highly recommend a book entitled Whitetail Strategies by Peter Fiduccia. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think it counted but wanted to ask. I did purchase a Mathews Ignition tonight, I plan to practice as much as possible to be prepared for Oct 1st.

Practice with the broadheads you'll be using........and in the clothing you'll be wearing while hunting. If you are going to be in a treestand be sure to practice from an elevated position at about the same height as your stand.

Use a 3-D deer target or a cardboard silouette deer for practice.

thanks for all the advice, I picked up the bow on Friday night and have two pins set one at 20 yards and one at 30 yards. By Sunday afternoon I was getting groups of 3 in a large coffee can size circle. Just gotta figure out how to stop hitting my forearm.

Can you post a picture with you drawing the bow? It sounds like your arm slap could be due to a draw length that is to long.

Here is a picture, critique away. Remember, I just started shooting a bow on Saturday.

I started hitting my arm when I first started and was about the same area. Went to Cooks sportland and they informed me that I was gripping the bow so tight that I was torqueing it which would cause it to hit my arm and my draw length was too long. It looks like you may be locking your elbow which can cause your elbow to turn slightly in, I have to leave a very very very slight bend in my arm to stop from hitting it. Next time your shooting try not locking you elbow this will change the way you elbow lies, you will actually be able to see the difference if you hold your shooting arm out and go from a locked position to not locking.

Also, if I was you I would go to a nearby archery store or some one that is very knowledgable on shooting and have them critique you start to finish.

If you live in the downriver area I would personally recomend Cooks sportland they do all the work on my bow, but I know Ninja has a store that is about an hour north of the downriver area and many people on here will swear by him.

Sorry, but somebody has to say it, GET YOUR FINGER OFF THAT TRIGGER. Unless of course, you are pushing the release trigger and not "resting" your finger on it.
Dry fires on a bow are baaaaaaaad ju-ju.
Looks to me like you're cranking your neck way back to sight down. Try "stepping into" the shot a little more.
There should be around 100 or so more experts chiming in shortly, so feel free to ignore me.
Congrats BTW.

You could reduce the draw length by 2 inches, and possibly more. If you have a slight bend in your left arm when shooting, by reducing the draw, you should eliminate the arm slap, and you will probably shoot much better groups as well.

I would agree that you are WAYYYYYY too long in your DL. Kingfishcam is absolutely right that you will reduce armw slap with a properly set up Drawlength.

I agree on the draw-length and form issues.....whoever set you up did you an injustice.
If you'd like to take a drive to my place, I'll be happy to work wth you....leave your money at home, I don't charge for advice.

You can take what Ken/Ninja tells you to the bank!!!!!!!!!!

One lesson in all of this is to by local from a dealer who knows what they're doing. They offer service and expertise that other outlets, especially the big box stores, can't.
