I have a few questions for ya fellas about a boat that was given to me. To fill ya in the boat is a 1979 ASI imperial and it has a 115 V4 seahorse megaflash johnson motor. This will be my first time ever working on a boat so i appreciate all the help and info you can give. I picked the boat up a few days ago and have been tinkering ever since. Lights all work, tilt works...but for some reason what i believe is the automatic/electric choke does not work. I changed the gas and manually choked the motor and it fired up after a few cranks:evil: shut her down for a few minutes and it fired right back up. A friend is coming by tommorow to help me change the fluid in the lower end so i can put the motor in gear...crossing my fingers. Back to the choke..is this common in older motors? I know...i need to go to the library and buy a book. The boat was left out all last winter and uncovered..other than taking it on the lake:dizzy: is there any way of checking the hull on a fiberglass boat for leaks? Can anyone point me in the right direction for a place that sells parts for an older boat/motor? Thanks for any and all responses.

I would try to check the solenoid for the choke first. Take a hot lead to the solenoid and a ground to the frame to see if the solenoid reacts. As far as checking the glass, crawl around under the girl and look for cracking in the gel coat / glass. Pay extra attention to any areas around fittings, mountings, drives etc.
