In case anyone but me was wondering....

TV blackout

There is no live local television for Thursday night's game. The 72-hour blackout deadline was not met Monday, when about 4,000 tickets remained. The game will be televised on Channel 50, on a tape delay basis, starting at 9:30.

I also read that that there will be a pre-game (cornbread style) starting at 9:00 on Channel 50 as well...

Pretty sure I am far enough north I can see it. I saw all of last years UPN preseason games anyway.
1st team O and D will do fine, but it will fall off after that. I doubt Cincy will expose every hole our secondary owns.

You should do that pre-game show 'ol buddy. Dont know anyone who can come up with a bunch of fluffy conrbread with no substance like you can.
You can have Jimmer and Thousandcasts come in as special guests. I could be like a comedy hour before the "real" comedy begins:lol:

Do we really have an offensive line this year...
Is tatum Bell the real deal...
What about Duckett...
Orvlaski or O'Sullivan...
Is Shaun Rogers ready to play....
How many TD passes will CJ catch...
Francis..Alexander..Baldwin..Davis...etc..
Call me a football addict....I like pre-season!

Good thing i'll be at the game then...just a pre-season game but still, this is going to be my first time at ford field and my second lions game ever...first one shouldn't count because i was working security, but being placed in the tunnel and getting to watch the game from the end zone and the silverdome didn't really seem like work :D

I wonder how ugly this game would be if Ocho Cinco and Housyourmamasdaddy were turned loose for a couple quarters. That there would make some Cincy style cornbread.

No, when it comes to me watching the Lions, nothing I say belongs on regular television. Put it on HBO and I'll do the freakin' play by play, but UPN doesn't have enough money to cover all the FCC fines that would come up with me being on the air and covering a Lions game.

Settle down people. Its only a pre-season game. Just wait, they'll get their 10 "losses" before the years over. This is just practice so you can remember why you dislike the Lions. Over the year ya kind of forgot........

If this was a show of quarterback's Kitna really show his stuff last NOT

sure it was the first pre-season game, but the 2 back up's rocked.. I know Kitna is the man and he will lead us to 10 wins, but the boy cant throw a ball and when he does its 2 feet off the ground

Wow...they won! Bring on the cornbread!

I didn't watch it since I was at work, but in looking at the boxscore, I don't see much for the starters. Did they not play much??? I mean, there's nothing in there for players like Rogers, Redding, et al.

Rogers didn't play. The starters on offense and defense were in for the for the first two series. The defense looked a lot like last years; No pass rush, weak secondary, giving up long chunks of yardage. They may have done slightly better against the run. The offense failed the first series, but moved the ball fairly well in their second and last attempt of the game in the 1st quarter. The offensive line is probably better with starters from last year now being used as depth. O'Sullivan and Orvlaski both looked pretty good and some of the recievers that that will be cut looked excellent as well. We did win, and really left at least 14 points on the field. Ducket fumbled at the goal line, and Orvlaski had on tipped and intercepted inside the Bengals 20. Just guessing, but combined I would say that the Lions QB's passed for over 500 yards.
Dang! Cornbread season is officially over. I'm sure we will get 'em next year! :D

The one touchdown was bull. Lions fumbled crossing the plane, line man touched while it was on the ground, in the end zone, lost control and a Cincy player picked it up. Ruling, Cincy's ball :confused::confused:

Overall I saw that they have the full potential to be what they've always been. This game was enjoyable to watch, could be only one this year I say that about.

that was the right call, the lineman never had control of the ball, went right through his arms

we left the game with about 4 or 5 minutes left in the 3rd, cinvy had scored but it was called back, and they ended up getting a field goal...heard the rest on the way home. O'sullivan really impressed me, threw a couple passes where, as soon as it left his hand i said, nice pass...it was only the first preseason game, so only time will tell, kitna looked ok, he was 3/5 for 52 yards in his short time in there, can't really tell much of how this year is going to go when he only throws 5 times...C. Johnson looked good to, crowd went nuts when they went to him those 2 straight passes on that last minute drive to end the half. but it was a good time, first visit to ford field, very nice place!

Why sould he have to posses to the ball, it wasn't a pass, it was a fumble.

Ever see a kick off when the bal rolls in the end zone and the player wlaks up, puts his hand on the ball and kneels? He doesn't posses the ball!

In order to regain posession in the field of play a team has to recover the ball or knock it out of bounds. Knocking it out of bounds gives it to the last team that touched.

The highlight of the night, for me, was listening to Frank make the comparison of O'Sullivan to Joe Montana.

Joe "Freaking" Montana?

Does he mean the Hall of Fame Quarter Back? Does he mean the Four time Super Bowl Champion? Certainly 1, pre-season game is all you need to draw those kind of conclusions about a new QB. Maybe he meant a different Joe Montana.

Joe Montana... ha ha. The only thing Joe Montana-esque about O'Sullivan is that he throws right handed.

For the Frank's future reference:

Person throwing right handed, however, not Joe Montana

Why sould he have to posses to the ball, it wasn't a pass, it was a fumble.

because he HAS to, thats why. if it is a live ball, the first person to touch it doesn't get possesion, the person who gains POSSESION of the ball get s it, in the end zone or not, it was the right call.

Ever see a kick off when the bal rolls in the end zone and the player wlaks up, puts his hand on the ball and kneels? He doesn't posses the ball!

technically, yes he does, if he has control of it when it is on the ground and keeping it form moving, in that case, it is in his possesion

In order to regain posession in the field of play a team has to recover the ball or knock it out of bounds. Knocking it out of bounds gives it to the last team that touched.

no it doesn't, he doesn't have possesion of the ball, it goes to the team who had the ball and it is marked at the spot of the fumble.

NFL fumble rules:

1. The distinction between a fumble and a muff should be kept in mind in considering rules about fumbles. A fumble is the loss of player possession of the ball. A muff is the touching of a loose ball by a player in an unsuccessful attempt to obtain possession.

2. A fumble may be advanced by any player on either team regardless of whether recovered before or after ball hits the ground.

3. A fumble that goes forward and out of bounds will return to the fumbling team at the spot of the fumble unless the ball goes out of bounds in the opponent's end zone. In this case, it is a touchback.

4. On a play from scrimmage, if an offensive player fumbles anywhere on the field during fourth down, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If any player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If recovered by any other offensive player, the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble. In that case, the ball is dead at the spot of recovery. Any defensive player may recover and/or advance any fumble at any time.

5. A muffed hand-to-hand snap from center is treated as a fumble.

the fact of the matter here is they won. Now if they would have lost, yes you have a right to be upset but after watching the relplay it was the right call

All and all it was a good game

She looks like she has one heck of an.....
arm.. mmmmmmmmmmmm stop me now! :corkysm55
Personally, I'd play two-handed touch with her before either Montana or O'Sullivan.
The commentator wasn't comparing abilities of Montana and O'Sullivan at all... he was simply stating that he had similar mannerisms.
When he asked the question "Who does O'Sullivan remind you of".... I immediately said (I kid you not) "Joe Montana" because of the physical resemblance...
Anyway.... back to tail gating..
