Ok, I am in the process of Re-Wiring my whole boat.

I have two batteries, a starter battery, and a deep cycle.

So Far I have everything running to the starter battery...except the 55# minn kota.

So on my starter Battery, I have the following.
Motor
Nav. Lights
Horn
Stereo w/ (2) 6" speakers
VHF Radio
Livewell pump
Bilge Pump

On my Deep Cycle I only have the 55# minn kota.

Here's my question, I am wiring in my new fish finder, and I was wondering if I should wire this onto my deep cycle, or should I also include this on my starter battery?

While I am in the process of rewiring, I am also going to add an On-board charger which will charge/maintain both batteries.( Im sick of taking the deep cycle out every time to recharge it.)

Any ways, what is the best on board charger which will hook in perminatley to (2) seperate 12 volt systems? Brand, Type ect....

Thanks, Brian

Almost time to start :fish:ing again!

IMO.... I'd wire the FF, stereo and lights to the deep cycle...Those are the things that are going to kill your starting battery.

1st time out sturgeon fishing on my trophy we killed the battery running all that kack......had to make a paddle out of a cooler lid and the landing net to get over to a dock and walk back to the truck to get the battery :help:

Needless to say, I now carry a spare battery....Of course I've never had to use it since, but it's nice to know its there!

I would personally add the fish finder to my starter battery. Then if you add a fish finder to the front of the boat, which Im sure you will you can tap into the min kota battery in the front becasue it doesnt draw that many amps. I wired my boat last year and it seems to be doing well with that set up.
as far as on board charger I would recommend this
http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74190_200003004_200000000_200003000_200-3-4

The 4/4 model is great for the money and its a 2 bank system.
However if you go to a 24volt trolling motor and have 3 batteries you might have to upgrade.

My Lund is factory wired with all accessories on the starting battery. The deep cycle serves only the trolling motor.

Yup. That is the way Both the bass boats are wired.

I run that Bass Pro 4/4 charger for my 2 Deep cycles (24V Trolling) and it works great for what I need it to do. Unless your gonna be out on the water all day and need them batteries chagred quick to be back out there the following day, it should work for you as well.

I would run the trolling motor and a backup bilge pump to the deep cycle. That way I know that at least one pump will work for a while if things get dicey in bad weather and one battery dies. Just keep a pair of jumper cables one board that will reach in case you run down the start battery.

:yeahthat: If you didn't have a trolling motor on the boat, everything would be wired to the starting battery.
