I see that we don't have a thread for fishing gear so I'll stick this here.
Wife is letting me spend cash on a new walleye boat!!!!!!!:D Looking at a 17 G3. But, I need to get a final price so I have to my some calls.
1. GPS-SONAR: I'm lost. There are so many out there. I'd like a nice gsp-sonar for the dash and at least a decent sonar for the bow. But man o man. Its like pickin broadheads, but realllllyy pricey broad heads. Not looking to buy a new house, just enjoy some time on the water. I'll be doin most of my eye chasing in the St. Mary's so a good GPS is a must. (Gotta walk that ON line for tourneys, not to mention the 3,000 spoil piles).
2. G3 172: 115 hp Yam. Any idea how low this thing will crawl. Or, do I need to drop 3K on a kicker?
Any help?

The combo SHOULD go on the front IMO (not just a sonar) ...
The cheapest way out:
Hand held on a RAM gimbal mount ( you can switch back & forth) IF you want a mapping combo the Lowrance 520/522 is hard to beat.
Eagle 320 or 480 for a cheap graph - but I do recommend color HIGHLY.

Yup....not only is he the electronic wizard, he is also the walleye king !!!:help::lol:
My vote for a reasonably priced graph is a Lowrance X96, I have one and am quite happy with it.

I also have an X96 by Lowrance. I love it. I have always had hummingbirds. I switched because of all the hype I have heard from fellow fisherman. I think it does a better job defining the bottom and structures. And it appears alot faster return rate.
As far as gps....I like to use a handheld because then I can take it off and use it for hunting purposes as well.

Doesn't Lowrance make the Eagle graphs?

Search around some for the older model 110 Lawrance...we found them this past winter at West marine forover $1200 OFF what they were going for......some Boat stores may have one still in stock and also look on Ebay!! Take a nice look at that cloud of bait fish and all the walleye arches around it!! Awesome!!!

Lowrance does INDEED manufacture Eagle....
As a matter of fact if you take an X96 and start plucking parts out of it until it quits working , then put the LAST part back ...
THAT is then an Eagle Fishmark 320!!!
:lol::lol::lol:
the X96 is a good basic machine!

Just picked up a Lowrance LCX-18c on ebay for $520. It's AWESOME. Graduated from the LMS-320 and man does the color make a difference. The map is a lot more detailed as well, probably cause the screen is bigger :D
