Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it would be to rebuild a 302 v-8. Have a boat I may buy, the outdrive is in good shape, is 19', but he says motor is seized. What kind of price range would I be looking at worst case senario. The boat and trailer I can get a great deal on, want to see if its worth getting motor rebuild. Thanks.....Ralph

Son builds them. "If block and heads are good, $1300.00."

If it's seized, I would think that the block is probably toast. If not, it'll take some work to get it back into shape to be rebuilt. About four or five years ago we put a rebuilt short block 350 MARINE engine in my dad's Sea Ray. I think he spent around $2200-$2400 for it. But we reused his heads and intake.

Whatever you do make sure that you're getting MARINE GRADE parts! Marine engines are different than car engines and are run under load ad higher rpm's for long periods of time. Don't just drop in a standard car motor and hope for the best.

Take care

I just checked one place and found that a rebuilt longblock 302 runs between $1699 and $1999 depending on year.

I did some more checking and found another place that has a 320 for $1390 with $300 core and $175 freight.

There is a LOT of info out there. I just did a google search for "rebuilt marine engines" and got a TON of hits. I know that sometimes online isn't necessarily the best way to buy things. But it's good for comparison and getting information.

Thanks for the info. I need to find out more what happened to it, but he said something about pouring the coolant in wrong port, and went into pistons. Not sure if he ran it first, or what happened.

I had the 350 in my Ski Nautique rebuilt two years ago now and it came to somewhere between 1300 and 1400....I cant remember exactly. It had to be bored 30 over (what ever that means...I'm no mechanic, but I think it makes it a little bigger) and I had to replace some other things too (again...I'm no mechanic, so I don't know what things are called).

All I know it that engine runs like a champ and that little ski boat is the best investment I ever made.
