Do you fish for whitefish in summer? Just south of the Muskegon arms are nets set up for white fish. I had an off the wall idea? Why not fish for them by the nets? It seems there would be a good amount of fish in this spot or near? How would I fish this?

Are their any difference in texture of summer whitefish versus the December fish?

I would think they'd be catchable as we have caught them perch fishin...i would think it would be better to fish somewhere where no nets are prevalent, they are all over out in the big lake...I dont think it would be as good of odds off of musk where there are nets vs. whitehall or 5h20 where there are no nets...

We used to fish them every summer off of Deep Water Point in Acme, just north of Traverse City on East Bay. They were in 60 to 120 FOW straight out from the ramp. I know that they do well off of Elk Rapids, too. They come out of cold water, so they are in good shape. I'd stay away from the nets, as well. They are depleting the stocks, so you would have less fish to target. Our method was to chum a good amount of canned corn and spawn and then drop about a 3/4 ounce egg sinker with about a three foot leader to a #14 treble hook with six pound test. Look for a tap like a perch then crank and set the hook quick. To chum under your boat get anchored and then put your chum in a brown paper lunch bag, along with a rock. Tie a good string or heavy fishing line to the top of the bag. Drop it slowly and when it hits bottom give it a good jerk. The bag should break, leaving a nice chum area under your boat. If you don't know the area and where the fish are it will be hard to find them. Good luck! If you find them it's fun!
