I just got a 39" speargun with a 12 ft range for spearfishing and cant wait to try it. I plan on taking carp with it for baiting my turtle traps. My question is, Has anyone ever spearfished before? I think its gonna be a riot!!! Reason I bought it is I was snorkeling the other day, checking out some of my bass fishing spots, and I probally seen about 100 carp within about a 2 hour span. I had at least 30 within my 12 foot range.

PS. I know the fishing regs, and that i cant use it on trout waters, certain species, etc...

Not exactly related, but back in the early '80's, my buddies brother used to use frog spears to spear Steelhead (highly illegal, I bet) when they would come into little (4 ft wide) creeks up in the UP. He referred to the spear as a "push hook"

You will educate those carp very quickly.
Depending on the power of your gun 12' is a long shot for carp, they have very thick scales. Slightly quartering away allows the spearhead to slide under the scales.
Aim/shoot instinctivley.

gonna try the gun out sunday. I'll post pics if i get anything.
BTW, if anyone has done this, should i get a bouy to attach my speargun to? I know that carp fight like heck when you stick them with a bow and arrow....i dont feel like losing my new speargun to a 20 pound carp
