From Detroit Area Steelheaders forum "Quote"

Effective June28, 2007, the DNR has set up new rules to prevent the spread of VHS. Most of these deal with bait, etc, but 1 may effect all of us.

"A person who moves a boat over land between bodies of water shall drain all water from the live well(s) and the bilge of their boat upon leaving any body of water."

I've heard that co's were inspecting boats as they pulled out of Lake Michigan launch ramps. If they hadn't pulled their bilge drain plug they were ticketed. So, make sure you do this. Stewe H.

I always pull my plug upon trailering my boat.

Darn right they should get a ticket. I live on a lake that is a 1/4 mile from Grand Traverse bay and we have a sign at the DNR launch that says. Don't drain it , we drain your pocket. Signed Michigan DNR. I'm scared to death of it hitting my 330 acer lake. It would destroy this lake . Leaving us about 6 fish .

I have a buddy that was invited to a walley tournament in Missouri and the DNR actually put bleach in the livewells and in the bilge water to disinfect the boats.
