Anybody have reccomendations for the best Boundary Waters Canoe Area book?

I'm thinking about it for my honeymoon in a year or two!

Any reccomendations on canoe size or style for the area too?

Do it. It is my favorite place on Earth. This will be the first year since I was 5 that I haven't been up at least one time and it is absolutely killing me.

Are you going to fish or camp/sightsee? Lots of great books about and from that area.

17' lightweight aluminum with a good set of pads is my choice with the seats lowered a couple inches to add stability. Grumman would be my prefered brand, but have fished out of and portaged Alumacrafts as well. Kevlars are nice, but not very sturdy/stable IMO.

Anymore questions fire away-I could talk about that area for hours.

Thanks....any favorites as for books.

I've only been through MN once and that was last year on the way to Ontario for a deer hunt. I too fell in love with it. We went through Duluth all the way up 53 to International Falls on the opening day of their gun season early in the morning. Wow!

Since then, the woman and I have kicked around moving to Duluth if Michigan swings too low for us. We're both educated and the job market just isn't in my neck of the woods and I refuse to move south anymore than i am. Duluth would be a great fit for me....not too big, not too small, decent jobs and a little class mixed in.

Talked to a guy that said there is a two year waiting list. What's this all about? Any truth? I know you have to apply for the permit and register your watercraft though.

I need a book!

2 year waiting list for what?

Yes, 53 is a beautiful stretch along the north shore of Superior...and the air is so wonderful.
I had it in my mind in HS that I was going to move to Duluth after college...then I got married, but yes it is a wonderful town-bit of a liberal state and plenty of whackos, but what area of this world doesn't have that problem:lol:

Again, are you going to fish or camp/sightsee? I'll try to remember some book titles and look online for some I recognize (we have hundreds of books at our cabin, but I'm not good with titles). Do you want books on history of the area, what to do, how to fish???

I'll be fishing, camping and just canoeing and messing around. Nothing serious, but I'd like to be out of the main thoroughfare of other "boaters".

I was just looking for a general overview of the BWCA routes and sightseeing info...as for books I mean. i believe I've found one on Amazon that looks interesting.

Check in with this site. They are die hards in that area. Very knowledgeable group.

For a canoe - I have a 17' Wenonah Kevlar Sundowner(42 pounds) currently for sale, should that interest you.
